Acronis True Image rescue disc cannot find any hard disk

Thread needs solution

I'm using Acronis True Image Home 2011 PLUS on Win XP SP3. I created a rescue disc, but when I try to boot my computer with this disc, it cannot find any hard disk.

I looked into your forum and found that the reason is some missing drivers and that I need to create an WinPE disc. So I tried to run Acronis WinPE Iso Builder, but it stopped and told me that I need to have WAIK (Windows Automated Installation Kit) installed. So I looked for this WAIK in Microsoft site and found WAIK only for Vista, not XP SP3.

How do I solve the problem?

You can use the WAIK for Windows 7. It works with xp as well.

Try again with the CD but during the boot process, go into the BIOS and make sure it is set to boot from the CD.

OK, I will try WAIK for Win 7.

As for the CD, of course I have the CD-boot enabled in the BIOS, otherwise I couldn't have booted from the rescue disk at all....

OK, I found WAIK version for Win 7 and another WAIK version for XP SP2.

Now the question is which version to use for XP SP3:
"WAIK 1.1—v6.0.6001.18000", which is for WIN XP SP2 with KB926044 update,
or
"Win7 WAIK: 6.1.7600.16385" which is for Win 7?

Any ideas?

What has worked for me with xp pro is the win7 waik: 6.1.7600.16385

OK, Here is what I did:
- I successfully installed Win AIK for Windows 7 (on my XP SP3 computer).
- I ran Acronis WinPE ISO Builder. When it asked for the wim files, I pointed to "D:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools\ia64", which is where my winpe.wim is.
- ISO Builder successfully created AcronisMedia.wim on this same folder.

Now what? do I have to burn AcronisMedia.wim onto a CD? burn it as a data file? as an image file?
WILL THIS CD BE BOOTABLE?

Click on the first top line of my signature below and look at the items under index item 7-B,

The sub-item L may be of help.

I finally succeeded to create a bootable Acronis True Image CD which recognizes my hard disks, but not in Full Version, only in Safe Version
(I used "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\MediaBuilderHome\MediaBuilder.exe" to create this CD).

Two questions now
1. Will the Safe Version do the job of system recovery? Will it be able to restore my system from image files (*.tib) that I created with ATI?
2. When I restart my computer with this CD, I cannot use the mouse. I have to move the cursor with the numerical pad arrow keys, which is rather awkward. Any idea how to enable the mouse?
