ACTIH2014 build 6673 error message "failed to activate Acronis Bootable Agent"

I have a dual boot with Windows 7 and Mac on my Macbook Air. I tried Windows 10 and lost the Bootcamp icon. I had done a complete backup of the Windows partition prior to the Windows upgrade and now I cannot restore that backup version as I receive the message "failed to activate Acronis Bootable Agent". The backup is on a Western Digital 1T Passport hard drive. The program easily finds the backup version, but after it warns me that the process will require a reboot, and I consent, I receive the error message. How do I restore the backup version from a day ago??? (It was a verified version)
Thanks,
Ken K

Yes, I know. The freshly minted bootable rescue CD was in my hard drive when I received this message. I could easily see it in Explorer with its Recovery Manager folder. That was not the problem... But thanks for the response...
Added at 7:36 PST. I did try to boot from the CD rom but I do not know how to reach the BIOS of my Macbook Air to change the boot disk.

Kenneth,
I have yet to see any version of Acronis work successfully to restore a dual boot MAC / PC / Linux environment running a bootmanager, Parallels, Boot Camp, GRUB or Lilo. Something always breaks. Further, if you were using ASM or ASZ the OS upgrade has certainly tainted the partitioning scheme and likely the file systems in use on the HPFS+ Mac formatted disk.
Its well documented that installing windows 10 destroys your ability to return to the previous OS, except for the following:
For a month after you upgrade to Windows 10, you’ll be able to go back to your previous version of Windows from Settings > Update & security > Recovery. This will keep your personal files, but it'll remove apps and drivers installed after the upgrade, as well as any changes you made to settings.
Other possibilities include windows Back up if you created a back up using this utility.
I know what you're thinking.... I made a back up. Yes you did, but its not a full disk image back up and you cannot simply restore a partition and expect your boot environment to magically return to what it was after piggy backing an OS upgrade on top of windows 7.
These types of issues are difficult to support and troubleshoot bacause everyones enviromnments are often unique. Version of Mac OS, version of Boot Manager's and the operating systems encompassed within. You may want to consider all of the variables involved (and the changes you made) before moving forward with recovery.

Shadowsports, thanks for your detailed response. After I had "regressed" my Windows 10 install back to Windows 7 and found the same situation with absence of my boot camp drivers, it suddenly occurred to me that I might try reinstalling the book camp drivers, which did work, so I was back to where I wanted to be.
Unfortunately, that still does not solve the problem of backing up the Windows (Bootcamp) partition! It sounds like what I need to do is to not use the Windows dual boot OS for anything that I might not mind losing, as there is no way to back it up. That is not totally unreasonable, as I don't rely exclusively on the laptop for my storage and most of my important files are either in the cloud or on my Drobo. What had freaked me out was the inabilty to re-boot back into the Mac side of my computer. Do I read your response correctly?
Thanks,
KenK
