Adding Bootmgr to windows 7 partition backup
I'm trying to backup my windows7 partition but I want to copy the bootmgr file and boot directory onto the wiindows7 partition.
I have a hidden recovery area on my netbook with these files on, but I want to recover only the windows 7 partition without the recovery partition. But, I obviously want to boot straight into windows.
Basically, I want to get rid of the hidden partition because I can use Acronis to restore my system.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks PAT. The only problem is; I don't have the installation CD. Windows7 came pre installed on my Netbook.
I have a Samsung Netbook. I've looked at the partitions again and there are 3 different partitions:
1. The 100 MB partition (system reserved) with all the boot manager files in it.
2. A 15 GB partition, which is basically the Samsung complete recovery system including a compressed image of the operating system
3. The installed windws7 partition.
If I only back-up the system reserved partition and the windows partition will that work? I'm worried that it will want to look for the Samsung recovery partition, because that's what boots immediately when I power up the Netbook.

If you see the boot folder and the bootmgr files in the 100MB partition, you are probably good to go.
To avoid any risk, here is a way to go:
- backup your entire disk (including all partitions) from the recovery CD, validate your backup from the CD. Although you can do this in Windows, this ensures you can recover from the CD as well,
- Clean the disk with Acronis drive cleanser in the tools. ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED.
- Restore first the System Reserved partition. After choosing the destination, you will see a dialog where you can resize the partition (you don't have this dialog if you restore your entire disk). ATI should propose by default a 1MB space before the partition. Keep it as such. Keep the same size 100MB. Make the partition primary, active. Do not assign a letter or assign a letter different from C. YOu can remove that letter later in Windows.
- Without rebooting, restore your C: partition, without space before or after the partition, make it primary, NOT active. Assigne the letter C:.
- Restore your MBR and track 0.
See if the computer functions normally. You will lose the functionality of booting in the Samsung recovery environment, of course.
