After full disk restore to same disk, Windows Update no longer works

Thread needs solution

Dear users,

I recently just restored my full disk (all partitions) with the Disk Signature option enabled on a Toshiba Satellite running 32-bit Windows 7 using Acronis True Image Home 2011 with the Plus Pack. The restore seems to work just fine. However, whenever I tried to run Windows Update, I receive the following error:

"Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may have to restart your computer."

I checked and all of the services appear to be running. Restarting the computer nor reloading the Acronis image seem to help. I've checked the support forums and it appears that other people have experienced this issue when trying to restore to dissimilar hardware (e.g. larger drives running the newer 4k sector size). However, I'm just trying to restore to the original drive that came with the laptop.

Please help!

Thanks,
Beaux

Figured it out. I ran the Intel Driver Update Utility and let it scan my system for any updates. Accepted all of the updates and Windows Update was restored to working.

Thanks for your feedback, it has been documented here on the forum before, but I didn't get a chance to respond before you posted your solution. Usually all that is needed is a re-install of the Intel RST software, but the update method will get you any updates you needed, but possibly didn't have before the clone, anyway. Glad to here you are back up and running. This also happens with other cloning software as well (Not Acronis specific).
