after new image MS office products all fail - office not installed for this user

Thread needs solution

I bought True Image home specifically to migrate my XP pro image from a 100GB disk to a newer 320GB disk.  All seems to be working fine except none of my MS office products work.  They all try to do an install then fail telling me office is not installed for this user.  Did True image mess with my user IDs ?

I would suggest that you provide the version of Microsoft Office that you are using as well as the Acronis product name, version and build number.  This will help to sort out the issue.

There was a problem in the past with some version of Acronis True Image where by default some files were excluded when creating an image.  One file that I recall was the expression *.bak.  Acronis quickly released a later build that corrected the matter.  This may be what's happening.

Edited to add the following:

If you are using True Image 2009, you should make certain that you are using the latest build which is 9796 in the U.S.  I believe build 9709 worked OK also.

I did some searching in the previous Wilders forum and found these links:

Thanks Bruce, the issue was indeed that when I created my external image to move to a larger drive, I did not uncheck the bypass .bak documents. I had a brand new copy of Acronis true image but it was the old version that defaulted to bypassing .bak and other files. I used another utility to copy over all the .bak files from my old drive and MS office starting working after the reboot. Thanks again. Now that I know the copy of TI I just bought is old, I found I can indeed get a free upgrade which I am pursuing.

Glad to hear that you fixed the problem. If you're looking at True Image 2010 you won't have that problem. By default no extensions are excluded. You can of course add some if you desire.
