Align says Sector 63 is aligned! Is this possible?

Thread needs solution

In XP you run the Align program and it tells you if a new drive is aligned or not. Normally Windows creates the first partition to start at sector 63 whereas Acronis starts the first partition at sector 2048 (1024k) which is divisible by 4k so it is aligned. However, my 3T drive (WD Advanced Format) was formatted by XP (700 Gb partition) so the partition starts at sector 63. Yet the Acronis program says it is "aligned"! How is this possible?

When I view the disk in "cluster" mode (with a special utility), it verifies that cluster 0 starts at 63, i.e. NOT aligned by any method I know of.

Anybody know what is going on?

I reformatted it to start at 64, 711, 2048, 2049 and it always says "aligned." I've zeroed and tried again. Always aligned! Is it a broken program?

There is definitely something wrong there, not sure what. Would advise align to 64 and call it good.
