All backups corrupted even after validation

Thread needs solution

I have backups to run daily and weekly using version 2010. The backups include validation and send me an email when they complete (which always indicates a successful validation). I also have the checkbox for "Ignore bad sectors" checked for each backup.
However, when I use the bootable media disk and try to restore any of the backups, I get an immediate error message that the "file is corrupted." No restore is possible on any of the backups. The error message also reads that if the image can be mounted, I can try that.
What is the problem? If the files being created are somehow corrupted, why does validation succeed?
What can I do about this?

Was the bootcd made with the same version/build of ati that made the backup?
Have you tried a manual validation of any backup from within windows to confirm that ati's reports of successful validation are correct?
