Application Backup

Thread needs solution

I have TI Home 2010. When you do a backup does that backup apps? If I backup with TI 2010 and re-install W7 and then restore the backup, will all the apps run?

No, that won't work. ATIH 2010 makes a backup image of your hard drive, OS (W7) and all. So restoring from a backup will restore, yes, the Programs, but also the Operating System to where it was when you made the backup.

Why do you want to "re-install W7"? If you are having problems there are a number of ways to deal with them e.g. "sfc /scannow" and next perhaps Repair Install. A Repair Install (from your installation disc) will restore your system to original W7 goodness, without affecting your applications, but will need subsequently to get any/all Windows Updates again, all updates since the installation disc was made.

If you reinstall the OS, then you're best bet is to reinstall the programs. NO utility can install and uninstall other folks programs reliably -- heck, many programs can even instll/unistall themselves reliably (thank goodness for revouninstaller).

Even if a utility could manage a particoular program, as soon as the program issued an update, the utility might then not handle the program correctly -- to have a utility that will manage all your programs -- never happen -- Not the way the programs have to install under windows, anyway.

You can make regular backups of your harddisk and if something goes wonky, restore the image -- that will take you back to pre-wonk days and you'll have everything on the restored didsk that was on it originally when you made the backup.
