Are TIH 2012 Backups BACKWARD compatible with TIH 2010?

Thread needs solution

I am running 2010 very happily on Vista 64 bit, but shortly installing Win 7. I think 2010 wors on WIn7, but have to bite the bullet on an upgraded version sooner or later. I had a really bad expertience with TIH 2011. It worked for an hour, and then crashed on startup every time. Uninstall/reinstall many times never worked. Tech Support webex'd into my machine for 4 hours and couldn't find it. After a week of waiting I went back to 2011. Also, absolutely hated that GUI in the hour that it worked.
Now they are suggesting I try 2012. Obviously they don't want to do bug fixes on 2011.
After my issues with 2011 and all the issues on this forum and the fact that support is backed up with lots of calls makes me really nervous.

So the first question is: If I try 2012 and don't like it; have bugs or issues etc, and I go back to 2010, will 2010 be able to use the backups (TIB files) that were created using 2012 while I used it? I can't afford to lose those backups. If not, it's a nogo.
They originally told me 2010 could not read backups taken with 2011, but it worked fine. Anybody tried it?

Second question is: has the GUI improved any? It could not be worse than 2011. People who use Acronis are not dumb newbies generally.

The file systems are not guaranteed to be forwards compatible, it is unlikely that 2012 tib files can be read by 2010. Having said that I haven't tried it.

TIH 2012 of course will read 2010 tib files.

Ideally having a W7 Virtual Machine with W7 or the free XP VM from Microsoft installed would be the way to go, install 2012 into the VM and then your host machine can check if 2010 can read a 2012 image.

The alternative would be to find someone with a 2012 rescue CD and see if that can read your current images. I doubt it will, but as I said I haven't tried such a thing.

I successfully restored a 2012 image copy .Tib using my 2011 rescue boot CD if thats any help to you. I did this because my 2012 Rescue cd doesn't work. It isn't detected at system boot. Yes BIOS boot sequence is correct. This release sucks & is ridled with problems as you can see here on the forums.
Sorry I purchased it

Jim,
You were very lucky. Generally, older versions will not restore a newer version backup. Most of the time, the error message is that the backup is corrupt.
