ATI 2010 XP restore image fails to boot on a larger boot drived.

I have been using a WD 100G boot drive (1 partition) for years with Win XP. No problems wiht backup/restore. I replaced the boot drive with a 160G and resored XP to the new drive. The system boots and windows start to load but fails with a blue screen that flashes so quickly you can't read it followed by the message that the configuration has changed and offers the normal options safe mode... none of which will complete successifully. This is the exact same OS image that works fine on the 100G disk. I have tested the 160G HD and it is fine. I have also triec the XP install disk repair and no problems were detected. Any thoughts?
