ATI 2011 How to provide credentials to backup a NAS share
I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo on 192.168.1.2, NETBIOS name is ATLAS.
I have drives U: and V: mapped to shares on the NAS. Windows 7 is using stored passwords to access the shares.
When I select the shares to back them up, ATI 2011 is able to select them, browse them etc. This works ok whether I select them as U: or V: on the local computer, or by their share names under \\192.168.1.2 or \\ATLAS.
However, when I attempt to back them up I get the following errors:
File or folder "\\Atlas\..." cannot be found
or
File or folder "\\192.168.1.2\..." cannot be found
depending on the selection method.
What's going on here? Also, how do I get ATI 2011 to request credentials for these shares? This used to work ok under ATI 2010.
Thanks very much.

I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is. There is a rule under Windows and it is that you cannot connect to the same network resource using two different account on the same machine.
When you're browsing to the network share using ATI2010, you're accessing the network resource as yourself. When ATI triggers the backup task, it does that using the system service account. This conflict prevents TrueImageHomeService.exe from connecting and erroneously thinks that the network service is refusing its credentials. In fact, two accounts cannot connect to the same network resource from the same computer.
The fix:
You have a local service on your machine called "Acronis Scheduler 2 Service". It is currently set to use the local system account. Change that to your own personal account. That way it will connect fine to do the backup when you're logged on at the same time.

Hello Marc.
Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I'd already given this a try (it's a fix that I've used for BackupExec for some time now) but it still gives the same error. Did this work for you?
It's a bit of a nuisance, especially as it worked in ATI 2010 and NAS drives are becoming increasingly popular in homes, so ATI really should be able to handle them.
Cheers, Howard

I seem to have got this to work:
Acronis services running under local system account
!! Make sure there is NO existing drive mapping to NAS shares !!
Open W7 Credential Manager in Control Panel and delete any stored credentials for the NAS device.
Create the backup job and enter credentials when prompted by ATI while browsing the NAS shares (this time you will be prompted for credentials because there is no existing connection to the NAS)
Run the job - it works
I did some further tests to see if the new job would still work when I have my drives mapped to the NAS shares - it seems to be ok.

I have a similar problem in as much as I'm using a trial version of TI2011 as I now have a Win7 machine and a Netgear Ready Nas with 4 disks setup as X-Raid. I have used TI Home for a number of years with out major problems and wanted to see if TI2011 works before buying. However it wont let me backup to a non NTFS partition. I would have thought that with NAS disks becoming more and more popular there must be a way to overcome this. Here's ever hopeful.

Well, I have the same problem since I removed TIH 2010 and installed TIH 2011.
Dear Acronis-Team:
Why do you provide "new" and "better" software and finally things which worked in the old version don't work in the new version anymore? Is it the job of the users to find a workaround just because you didn't do your job? Can't we expect a software which can do at least that what the old version could do?
This is really annoying! Find a solution and provide an update, please!!!!!

I think this is something to do with the Browser service. If I can see \\Atlas under Networks in Explorer then it seems to work. If (for whatever reason) I can't see \\Atlas under Networks in Explorer then it doesn't work. It doesn't seem to matter that I can ping \\Atlas by name or IP address, or connect to it via name or IP address, or map a drive to it that works perfectly well in Explorer - if it doen't automatically appear under Networks in Explorer then it's no go.
If I type \\Atlas in the address bar in Explorer then \\Atlas appears temporarily under Networks (same with the IP address) and ATI 2011 lets me set up the job ok, but when I run it I get "File or folder \\Atlas... cannot be found", even if I have configured the NAS login credentials. What the hell?
I'm convinced that this depends on the Computer Browser service having found the NAS and if it doesn't appear automatically then you are stuffed, however you set up the job (i.e. specifying either the UNC name or the IP address as the source). Needs to be fixed.

Well, I can always see my network drives in the Explorer - so it can't be the reason!
The point is that with the version 2011 of TIH there's no possibility to set the user name and password for accessing the drive anymore. I don't know what to say about this - it's simply annoying! Everything was working with v2010! Now I upgraded and I got all these problems!

I got a solution for the authentification problem:
When you browse for a location for the backup in your backup settings, then you will be able to see you network drives. When you select a network drive then there will come up a possibility to enter the login data for the drive at the top of the browsing window. That's what I was searching for a long time because this is changed compared to TIH 2010!
Now I can access my network drive successfully again!
Hint:
Maybe my designation differs from the English version. I am using a German version, that's why I don't know the exact English designations.
Edit:
Well, that's only one part of the story:
It works if you want to store your backup at an NAS.
But I still cannot access the NAS when I try to backup data from the NAS to my ASZ because there's no possiblity for entering login data.

I updated ATI 2011 to build 6574 yesterday and I can now backup to or from my ReadyNas without any problems. Result!
