ATI 2012 ERROR: 0x1000D7 - 0x9 - 0xFFF0

Thread needs solution

I made a full disk backup around 8 months ago, no problem at all. Not a month later I wanna make a second one (to be sure) and I got this error. The support couldn't help me fix it, nothing they did/told me to do worked.
Recently I noticed my ATI wasn't activated yet, so I did that now (I must have missed the final step 8 months ago), it's activated now. So I thought, I try another backup. But the same Error occured.
Maybe anybody here knows how to fix it, as the support did all they could and I did disk tests to see if anything was wrong with any of the disks but there wasn't and isn't. It ain't a hardware problem since I tested my entire rig and External Hard Drives.
The error message is in the attachments (sorry for the dutch, but the error codes are universal)

Any ideas on how to fix this?

That error message refers to disk errors in a particular sector.
Run chkdsk /r on that drive.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

What version of Windows?

What build of 2012?

Have you tried running a backup from the Rescue Media?

Open Windows Disk Management and capture the screen and attach to a post here for review.

James

I did run the chkdsk /r several times and there were no problems on any disk.

Windows XP (SP 3)
ATI 2012 build: #7133 (shown in 'my products in account')

I haven't tried the rescue media yet, not sure how to use it safely.

Windows disk management in the attachements.

How are the three drives connected to your system.

Disk 0 - internal?
Disk 1 and 2 - external?

Why is the extra space on the drives not allocated or formatted?

Have you tried to back up the "C" drive by itself?

Have you tried to back up the "D" drive by itself?

The error indicates that the "C" or "D" partition boundaries are not correct (for Acronis anyway), and Acronis is trying to read from a sector on the disk that it does not understand.

What size are the drives?

Are they all 2TB?

All drives are internal.
I tried all possible combinations on the drives.
The not-allocated space doesn't 'exist'. None of my drives are 2 tb (not in this pc). They are fully formatted to NTFS and are of the following size:
C: 50gb
D: 90 gb
(these two are the first ones, the 'original')
E: 300gb
G: 1TB

Well, something is strange on your system since all three drives show as 2048 GB (2 TB):

drive 0 (which contains C: and D:) shows 1908 GB "net-towegewezen" (unassigned or unallocated).
drive 1 (which contains E:) shows 1749 GB "net-towegewezen" (unassigned or unallocated).
drive 2 (which contains G:) shows 1116 GB "net-towegewezen" (unassigned or unallocated).

So, if those are not all 2 TB drives then something is wrong with your setup that is not related to Acronis True Image.

And the unallocated parts of the drives are something alien for acronis and probably get it to 'freak out and error out', right?
You guys got any idea of any check I could do?

Your issues are not with Acronis, but a different problem as Windows is reporting that all three disk drives are 2TB each with not allocated space at the end of each drive. When Acronis looks at these drives, it "seeing" something different than what Windows is reporting.

If you have a competent PC expert, you should have them take a look at your system to see why the drives are all being incorrectly identified as much larger drives.

Remember the "C" and "D" letters, are not technically drives, but only a letter assigned to a volume/partition on one physical drive.

From your Windows Disk Management screen, it looks as though both "C" and "D" volumes/partitions are on one physical drive, and that you have two additional physical drives attached to your system with one volume/partition each.

Are the actual physical drive capacities 140GB for disk 0, 300GB for disk 1, and 1TB for disk 2?

Boot your system up in Safe mode and check to see if Windows still reports the disks the same.

Did you install any new software to your system since your last successful backup was made?

If any, what was it?

Indeed, now you mention it I recall that the C and D partition are 1 drive. (Back then I was foolish enough to let my drive be split in partitions).
No new installs. My system was stable at the first backup so I didn't made any changes to it.
Nothing changed between the first (successful) backup and the other (failed) backup tries.

PS: might it be a problem I have less then 1gb free space left on my C? (ik it ain't good for smooth operating, and I'm looking for programs to shift, but as I said, the rig is stable as it is atm.)

You could download the free program Partition Wizard to take a look at your system from a different product. http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html

I would be VERY careful about making any changes to your partition structure until you have a good backup. Use the Recue Media to see if Acronis will back up the primary drive (preferably to a USB external hard drive, if you have an additional drive to use).

Are you running any kind of system protection (anti-virus/anti-spyware) on your system? Is it current?

No system protection, no internet.
You think that if I use the rescue media it might work to make a backup? (full disk if possible)?
How 'trusted' is that partitionwizard?

ps: I installed the trial version of 2013, erasing the 2012 instal. I'm doing a backup atm of my 'C'. So far it starts and it runs. Dunno if it will finish, but if this works, there ain't anything wrong with my PC I think, but with the 2012.
Maybe if this works, I can try a clean install again?
I'll keep you guys informed.

We trust Partition Wizard. We don't trust your ability to change anything (no offence intended), so please do not change anything yet. Just use Partition Wizard to examine the drives to see if it reports anything different from Windows Disk Management.

It is worth trying the ATI bootable Rescue Media to see if it might be able to make a full disk backup of your drive, to an external hard drive (not one of the drives with the size issue).

Your system clearly has problems that have nothing to do with True Image, and that's why ATI reported the error and didn't perform the backup. We want you to obtain a better understanding of what is going on before risking further issues such as loss of data.

I understand, and don't worry, no offence taken. I just don't like to mess with my system.

I do agree something is wrong with the way the drives are recognized. BUT the 2013 trial version made a working backup without problem where the 2012 bought edition gave me the error. So I find it hard to believe the problem isn't connected to ATI in some way.

You're not believing what we tell you. This is not an ATI problem. Windows Disk Management reports the drives with incorrect sizes and huge amounts of unallocated space. That has nothing to do with ATI, it is a Windows utility.

I do understand, and I will let my pc pro look at it asap.
But acronis 2013 did the job just fine. Maybe there is something different between both versions, something worth looking into as there are many others with the same error.
And i'm the last person to deny there is something wrong with the way mc reckons the drives.
But please tell me then why 2013 could make a back-up. And if the backup is restorable (which it might not be with the drives troible.

After installing 2013, do your drives still show the same capacities (2TB each) in Windows as before? If not, then the True Image disk filter drivers (installed to allow live data backup) from your older version could be to blame.

Damn I'm a fool not to check myself. (Let's blame the late hour yesterday) Indeed the drives are shown correctly now!

Well, IMO you two should be paid instead of the support. They didn't think about half the things you guys said.

I'm reïnstalling the 2012 version again (first without, then with Plus Pack). I'll see what it gives and let you guys know. (I hope the install just went corrupt)

JM,

Be sure to download and install the latest copy of 2012 (build 7133) from your Acronis account.
