ATI 2012 recovery takes many hours now, something wrong?

I am just recovering from a complete disk backup on an external drive (about 60 GB) using ATI 2012. This takes now more than 6 hrs. There is only the boot screen with the option to press F2 or F12, no progress indication but something seems to work... Should I hit an F key or does it simply take that long? Would you recommend to stop whatever happens by brute force (removing the external drive) or wait until when?
Since this is getting on my nerves I would appreciate your advice (I never tried to recover a disk, the creation of the backups was uneventful, however).
