ATI 2014 - Some backups missing but showing in tools and utilities.

Thread needs solution

Of 3 manual backups done today with ATI 2014, only the last one shows up under the Backup & Recovery tab. Either to recover or in Explore all backups.

First was a full backup, 2nd & 3rd should have been incremental additions.

All 3 show up under Tools and Utilities, both in Mount and Backup conversion. One converted and another mounted OK.

The backups are in a folder on an external USB drive, and I had changed it's drive letter, I suspect sometime after the first backup.
I'm quite new to ATI2014, but when I went to run the last incremental backup, there was a message like ''Not Backed Up" or something to that effect.
I also had to change the settings to point to the new location, but didn't do that till after getting some warning about "file not found".
Seeing the 3rd backup size I realized a full backup had been done.

The three backup files are:
Win7ProB_full_b1_s1_v1.tib 6.4GB
Win7ProB_inc_b1_s2_v1.tib 7.1GB
Win7ProB_full_b1_s1_v1-2.tib 7.4GB

I suspect the 2nd is also a full backup, although marked as incremental. I'd only made a few minor changes between backups 1 and 2.

The log file contains records for all 3 backups.
I've attached extracts of the first, second and third backup logs.

First, the backups are accessible via the browse for backups feature and can be added tothe task listing via he "add to backup list" features so the file are usuable but not readily visible.

Based on the unpredictable results, my advice is and has been NOT to change or edit the backuo task. If changes needed, then remove the task from the list tasks and create a new backup task. Settle on the settings you want to use then then create your backup task with later changes.

The cause of the unwanted full was the changes you make to the task.

Cease to use the old tasks. Start over with a new task and point the storage to a new folder or sub-folder. Before you start, you may want to change/assign a higher letter to your storage disk--if it is an external disk. A higher letter such as x or y or z will remain unchangted should you insert a flashdrive or camera etc so you backlups would have a better chance of succeeding.

If you want some reading material, click on link 2 below and review the settings for backu tasks. Particularly review the first few pictures plus illstration 11-Inc.

NOTE: as the program tracks and includes used sectors within the backups, any automatic use of disk defragging has to be avoided or planned as those changes will be included within the backup--even if the no changes were made to the files.

The "not backed up" message is the programs way of saying you have not completed a "scheduled" backup. Just ignore the message.
The can't find file message due to task being edited from its original setting--which should be avoided with no edits.

Thanks for quick response.
The "browse for backups" has made the backup available again - which is the main thing.

Took a while to discover that the feature is located under "Add backup", eventually found via searching the pdf manual.
I'd thought Add backup was some different route to creating new backups. My fault for never reading any manuals?? Had just moved from TrueImage 10. Perhaps I'd better look at your guide.

Another option, under Add backup, "Auto search at startup" is checked (? by default as I hadn't set it).
So it seems strange that the missing files hadn't already been added back. I'd done at least a couple of system restarts.

I had earlier tried double clicking on the two missing backups. This opened TrueImage but hadn't helped.

I normally set up drive letters U: for external USB and X: for DVD.
But this was a fresh re-install. I hadn't done drive letter changes when doing first backup. In future will do that first, or try to remember setting up new backup when changing drive letters.

The behavior of the second backup done seems quite illogical.
Log shows it couldn't find the first full backup, but new backup was created in the correct folder - where the first backup was. That may have been the point where I'd had to re-enter the location, but surely it could then have then found the first one.
Also seems daft naming second backup _inc_ when it had done a full backup.
