ATI Home 2010 Plus & Restoring to larger hard drive

Thread needs solution

good afternoon,

I have been using Acronis for many many years now and I just need to replace my original laptop harddrive (250Gb 5400 RPM) by a new one 500Gb Hitachi Travelstar 500Gb 7200 RPM.

to my surprise, I couldn`t resize the partitions once I tried to recover the original partitions.

since the disk is set as Basic, the boot partition cannot be resized nor the data partition expanded with a free 238Gb of ne space.

Should I need to reinstall everything ?

Any hints or comments are welcomed.

PS. Laptop : HP DV6753CA, 4GB RAM, Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bits.

Kind regards,

Luis

Luis:

TI will not allow partitions that contain bad blocks or file system errors to be resized. This is done to prevent data loss.

You should run chkdsk /r on all of the partitions on your existing hard disk. Chkdsk can fix many different types of file system errors. After doing this, make a new image file and try again.

Dear Mark,

No errors where found and no problems were reported when creating and restoring the partitions.

Used to have a soft from Acronis a while back that enabled me to resize partitions. Will look for it.

Regards,

Luis

Luis:

In the newer versions of TI you need to first select only one of the partitions to restore in order to see the resize screen. Is this the issue? Or is it that you see the resize screen but the option to resize is grayed out?

Hello,

Mark, thanks for your help, you're correct.

Luis-Miguel, let me help you. As Mark mentioned, you should choose only a single partition, not the whole disk to be able to resize the partition. In this case you will see the windows where you can set the restored partition size:

Please reply to this thread you you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
