ATIH sees ext. HD as potential destination, but not source???
Hi All,
I have three USB 3.0 hard drives... I want the (2) 2Tb to be backed up onto the 4TB.
Oddly enough, this works PERFECTLY on my wife's desktop, but on my laptop it is strange: Acronis shows ALL drives as the potential backup DESTINATION (in multiple partition mode) but in the top section of the window, only C: and ONE of the three external drives are available.
Again, this works fine on my wife's desktop. Plus, I know Acronis can see all drives because they are all possible destinations for the backup!
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jeff

Right click on the computer icon on your desktop, choose manage, storage, disk management
In the menu, choose view, top, disks list.
Create a screenshot of that window and post.
Also, what version of ATI are you using?

I didn't even know ATIH would image drives hooked up via USB - you learn something every day!

Hi All. THANKS for replying. In regards to your questions:
1) Same version of Acronis on both computers. ATI Home 2012, Update 2, Build 7119.
2) Switching to Disk Mode does NOT make it visible.
Update: it is a little inconsistent. Sometimes two of the three external HDs show up, sometimes only 1.
3) On the desktop where it works, the (2) 2TB drives are backed up to a simgle Buffalo 4TB drive. All connected with a USB 3.0 hub with external power. The Buffalo is two 2TB drives that can be set up with different RAID configurations. I have it set up to use it as a 4TB drive, rather than a redundant 2TB drive.
4) Screen capture is attached, as requested. THANKS again for helping.
Interesting that the one disk that ALWAYS shows up (Transcend) is the one that is listed as "Active, Primary Partition" whereas the WD MyBook and the Buffalo Backup are listed only as "Primary Partition".
It is probably not a coincidence that the "Active" label matches my problem...

Each disk can have one active partition so the "active" is a non-issue.
Some things you can try.
Be aware that using a hub can also be an issue within itself.
Try plugging the disks direct to computer--rear if unit is a desktop.
If you have the usb2 cables, try using the slower cable and see the disk become visible.
If hub is required,
Or, if the hub has usb2 connectors, try using the usb2 connectors.

I don't see anything in the disk management console that could create issues with ATI. Like Grover, I'd suspect the USB connection.

The desktop that works this way has Tsunami USB 3.0 hub, whereas my laptop is using a different brand. I will try switching the hubs and see what happens.
The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is: why do the drives appear in the potential backup drop-down box, but not in the first box (for "sources" to be backed up). One would think that if Acronis can see a disk, it would appear in both... and if not, would NOT appear in both.
Thanks again for the trouble shooting.
Jeff

I agree, it is suprising it/them doesn't see it when selecting a source but sees it/them when select a destination. Probably because ATI doesn't access the disk information the same way...
Typically, when a drive is detected but not supported, you can see it and it is greyed out. In your case, they are not detected at all, which could be an issue with the snapman driver.
I would try to uninstall, creat a clean boot environment with msconfig, then reboot and reinstall.
