ATIH ver11 -- restore to SSD and alignment

Thread needs solution

Acronis® True Image Home® version 11.0 (build 8,101)

If I slap an unformatted SSD drive into my laptop I know I can use the Bootable Recovery disk to restore a backup image of a single partition (not a sector-by-sector) from the DVD drive to another single partition on the SSD.

Question is, will this version of ATHI get the alignment right, or do I need to go through hoops and a lot of monkey-motion first?

I've looked through the forum and perused Grover's new backup and restore guides ( http://forum.acronis.com/forum/29618 ) but can't find a concise answer. Perhaps I didn't look hard enough?

Seems to me it might be easier to use a tool like Paragon's alignment utility after the fact rather than take the time to create all the perfect partitions first.

What do you guys think? Will ATIH ver11 get the alignment right on the first go?

Thanks,

Jim

Greetings,
Alignment issues can occur with any version of ATIH. 2012 and 2013 have seen much more compatibility testing wit SSD's than previous versions.

The safest way to restore an image to a new unformatted disk is one partition at a time, in the order they should be on th disk with the mbr being restored at the end. This is detailed in Grover's guide as you noted.

Problems can arise with images from OEM's who use a non standard offset or who's image contains more than one diagnostic, oem or hidden partition. Again' the key is to ensure that these partitions are restored in the correct order on the new disk.

V11, 2009 and 2010 will not ensure proper alignment because the UI doesn't let you specific exactly 1mb offset. Prepartitition your SSD with your favorite partition manager tool before restore each partition.

Thanks Pat. Another concise and useful answer.
