ATIH2012 install advice

Thread needs solution

Hi
I'm currently running ATIH2011 and have bought the 2012 version. My question is do I need to uninstall the old version first or will installing the new version do this for me? If I do uninstall first will the new version automatically pick up the settings for my non stop backup?

Thanks for any advice

Peter

Peter,

Tough question. Common wisdom with ATI products is to uninstall the older version, reboot and install the new version. I did this and it was a wreck. I restored an imaged with ATI 2011 installed and installed 2012 on top of it and it went without a hitch. The only other difference between the 2 cases is that in the second one, I turned off the security software.

At anyrate, make sure you backup your system with 2011 before installing.

One other small suggestion regardless of which route you follow. Check your operating system's event logs for any warnings or errors. If you see any existing problems there now, you'd be well advised to track them down first before installing any new software -- especially an application that will be adding or updating drivers and filters into the "required for boot" (Start=0x00000000) category like TIH does.

Thanks for the advice. The main reason I bought the upgrade was for the file sync option but having browsed the forum it looks as though this option is far from stable. Indeed judging from the problems the whole thing looks less than ready for release, it sounds more like a beta. I think I'll wait a while for a few updates.

A very wise decision IMO. Personally, I'm thinking very seriously about reverting to the most recent TIH2011 release myself and staying a full version behind the Acronis "upgrade" cycle from now on. It seems to take them about a year after their initial "latest and greatest" promotions to get things working as they should work prior to release. Being their involuntary beta tester during that period just isn't my idea of a wonderful experience and I doubt that I'm alone in having better things to do with my time.

In fairness, I suppose I should add that the same could be said about other software products, not excluding some operating system releases.
