Authentication

Thread needs solution

I have TI 2011 Home and just installed build 6696. Have two pc's hard wire linked and use broadband and a Linksys router WRT54G running windows xp home OS with the latest service pack and patches. In the past with all previous versions of TI I regularly backed up each other, using Acronis.
However this time when I tried to back up to my linked pc's Acronis came up with a box asking to Edit Authentication Settings, showing a user name and password box. Never seen this before and when pressed connect it failed. I am the administrator and the boxes match my User name and password when I log on to my pcs for it to authenticate. Just freezes see attachment. If I clear the check boxes “connect” is greyed out. Help search suggests to clear USE NT authentication box which I don’t see. My Lynskys is set to allow pc connectivity and has never been a problem.
I now cannot backup to my other pc as Acronis cannot find the drive I want as a destination.
How do I get around this problem?
Any help appreciated.
ps Paid for an upgrade to TI 2011 in December 2010, but Acronis only give free help for 30days and it run okay until I applied new build Feb.

Further to above:- My local IP address is correct according to my Linskys setup and I can access both pc's using windows explorer okay, so I have no problem seeing my other pc and its drive contents.
Acronis does not.
Hope this is of help to solve my problem. Thanks.

Try this.

Instead of selecting a mapped network drive as the backup destination, use the left navigation, unfold "network", click on the computer that has the shares.
At this point enter the credentials in the form of "computer\user" and the password. Test the connection.

See attached.

Thanks , tried this without success (see attachments). During the process I also received an error message and Acronis closed.
I have now tried to come from my second pc to backup its files to the first and there are no problems and I am not asked for Authentication for this procedure.
At a loss what to do now. Acronis is supposed to give peace of mind and backup up on a schedule, but if it cannot see my other pc it fails to do the job.
How do I get back from this build (6696) if that is an option?

Lec,

This TrueImage.exe error could come from an installation issue. Uninstall the software, use the clean up utility, reboot and reinstall.
When you enter credentials, enter your username in the following format: ComputerWhereTheUserIs\User Name

Thanks Pat, I was hoping that I would not have to uninstall TI but bit the bullet and followed all your instructions using the clean up utility. Disappointed that I had to uninstall and use old third party software, Devcon, via dos, to clean up properly. Why does Acronis not have its own software to clean up?
I have now spent the time, which was annoying, re-setting and backing up my PC.
Your solution seems to be working. Cheers.
Shall really now think twice before upgrading my TI to newer builds when they come along.
Acronis advertises the software as one step backup - yes when it works.
