Hello Carrie,
Thank you for using Acronis Products
Could you please check the disks for errors?
- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r" (where DISK is the partition letter you need to check) for every partition that is visible in My Computer. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.
If the issue persists please update SnapAPI using the following KB article

I'm getting a similiar error message trying to clone my hard drive, and when I try to check it using above procedure, I get a message saying I cannot do it, or that I am unauthorized to do it. How can I get past this? I am the admin and owner of this computer, Dell running XPsp3. Acronis True Image Home 2009. Thanks for your help, Woody

Hello woody king,
Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.
I'll do my best to assist you.
The reason of the error message is that Acronis software cannot get access to the partition to perform operations.
Please do the following to fix it:
1. Please check the partition for errors:
- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd);
- Enter the command:
chkdsk DISK: /r
where DISK is the partition letter you need to check. Please note, that checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.
2. If Step 1 doesn't solve the issue, please
Download SnapAPI update
Unpack the archive and run the SnapAPISetup.msi file;
Go through the wizard screens and hit Proceed to install the update.
(!) You will need to reboot the machine to finish the installation.
Please let me know if the issue still persists.
Thank you.
