Back-up Image file size does not match SSD

Thread needs solution

Hello everyone,

I downloaded the free trial of True Image Home 2010. I used default settings and did a back up on Vertex 2 SSD which has Win 7 Pro 64 bit OS. I did not select sector by sector option. Back-up was successful and I went to compare the file size and it did not match. In my computer, it reports my 60 GB Vertex 2 has 27 GB free space left (approx 33 Gb used), but my image back-up file is a little over 13 GB. I am not sure if this is correct or if I did something wrong. What I want to do is clone or create an image to my SSD, so if it corrupts I can clone my files back to SSD.

I am using a Crosshair IV Formula motherboard and I have 2 WD Blue hard SATA drives set as Raid 0 and is my secondary storage. My Vertex 2 is my primary and has OS. I did a back-up on SSD and stored the image in my Raid Storage.

It's probably correct. Compression is used. Also, the page file and hibernation file are not included (these can be quite large if the computer has a lot of RAM). On my 8GB system, these two files total 13.9GB.

You could Mount the image and browse it to check if everything is there.

I created an back up image of my 100GB Vertex 2 SDD the same way you did and the resulting image file is 25.4GB from 51.9GB of data on the SSD! Now, I have 4GB of RAM so at 1.5x physical memory my page file should be 6GB... So what about the other 20.5GB of data? Can the 45.9GB really be compressed 45%?

Assuming it's working correctly, it depends on the files being compressed. Some files will compress quite a lot. Some, very little.

I am also trying out the True Image version 2010 before I buy and have a similar set up. Likewise, when my OS gets screwed up (and it always does), I just want to reload a working image.

I am running 3 OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" 30GB SATA II Solid State Drive (SSD) in RAID 0 and the OS is WIN 7 Pro, 64 – bit.

My total disk space is 90 GB and approximately 57 GB used. The complete Acronis back up of my 3 - SSD’s in RAID 0 is about 31 GB which is about a 26 GB less than the used space on the RAID set up. So, I am assuming compression is taking place. I have not yet restored this image, but when I do, I’ll compare it to my previous set up and let you know what I find out.

Acronis 2010 appears to have limited testing functionality with the trial version.

When I launch Acronis from the boot disk to back up my RAID 0 drives, I get the message:
“This is a Trial version of Acronis True Image Home. It is not possible to commit the operations you have selected. To purchase the full version”....blah blah blah.

When I try to restore, my external WD My Book drive is not recognized and I am not able to restore from my networked computer.

I presume I will have to buy Acronis to see if it will concur with my requirements. I guess this is understandable. I see that it has a 30 day guarantee but I don't know what the terms and conditions are.

From what I can see thus far, version 2010 does not recognize my internal eSATA 6 drive.
