Back up system drive from program or rescue media?

Thread needs solution

Just getting started with TI 2013 and wondering if there's any advantage to backing up my system drive (all partitions) from rescue media instead of the actual program in Windows..

Both work fine.

Advantage of the Rescue Media is that you wouldn't have to install ATI, if that matters to you.
Advantages of the Windows app are that you can backup from within Windows and continue to use the PC during backup, you can open and explore backup images, you can schedule backups and set automatic backup limits/cleanup rules, etc.

I would also add that if you have a system disk problem, it will be the TI Recovery CD which is needed to do the recovery so it is important that the user be very familiar with the operation of the Recovery CD.

Plus user should use the CD for occasional validation of some backups to assure the user that the backup will available/accessible when a restore is needed. The best form of testing would be to use the CD to restore a backup to a new test disk and make sure the test disk will boot (remove master disk before testing).

Some users make it a practice of creating backups both from Windows but also from the CD plus store their backups on different storage disks to spread the risk of loss.
