Backing Up Too Much Data - Why?
Hello:
I have Acronis True Image Home 2010 running on Windows Vista (32 bit). I have an incremintal backup scheduled to run nightly. On the first night, it backed up 440GB of data from one internal hard drive to another just as I asked it to. On the following night, Acronis backed up only 63mb which is normal for an incremintal backup and the amount of data I was working with that data. This continued for a few more days and then it backed up 15GB of data. I didn't work with that much data that day. The files I used weren't that big so I couldn't figure out why it backed up so much data. And now, several weeks have passed. On some days, Acronis backs up what I would consider a normal amount of data according to the files I'm working with where most backups use less than 100mbs of space. But many of my backups are using gigs and gigs of data. On one stretch, it backed up 20gb one day, 21gb on the second day, 32gb on the third day, and 38gb on the fourth and fifth days. I can't seem to figure out why it's backing up that much data. I mean I get online and surf the web, edit an image file or two, and possibly create a word document or something but am not working with large files.
Do any of you know what would cause Acronis to backup data I haven't changed? With the files I'm working with, I should be backing up less than 50mb of data on most, if not, all days. Why does it think I've changed 38gb of data? I can't find a report that tells me what files were backed up on any given day so I can track this error myself.
Any help sure would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Magus

Maybe you discovered the same problem (file based backup) I described in the following thread:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/18624
If so it has definitely nothing to do with defragmentation or shadow copies because after applying my workaround the incremental backup works as expected.
