Backing up whole user profiles

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Today I got a big fright. I thought Windows had deleted my user profile. After I created new account, the old one simply vanished! This problem I could solve reading a thread in another forum.

Well, now I'd like to know if I can use ATIH (2013) to back up user profiles. I mean, I already use it to save the c:\users\ folder but can I save the user profile to restore it later?

Case not, is there any other Acronis tool for that?

Thanks.

Apart from performing a full disk or partition image which will automatically include everything, you could make sure you backup your NTUSER.DAT file, this is your user profile file that gets loaded into registry.

The file lives at c:\users\your_user_name . By default it is a hidden system file, but if you enable viewing of system and hidden files you will be able to add it to your backup.

The NTUSER.dat file will be included in your backup if you backup the complete folder. You have to enable viewing it though to see it.

If you want to backup this file specifically, you will need to enable viewing it, so you can specifically back it up on to your external drive and also so that you can recover it manually.

Hi, Collin. Thank you for your response.

I don't want to go too off-topic but is that NTUSER.dat file all I need? Don't I need registry entries and all that stuff?
I'm talking about being able to "import" an user profile later. Much like what Windows Easy Transfer does.

For the moment what I'm doing is: I export my user profile using WET and I back up all my user files with ATIH. It's
a two step procedure. I was just wondering how to reduce it to a single backup job.

Not really an emergency.

Thanks.
