Backup to Blu-Ray problems

Thread needs solution

The hard drive I am backing up has only 20GB data on it, and I'm using 25GB single-layer BD-R media (the program tells me I need only ~12GB free space for the backup). I am trying a complete backup.

A short while after the backup commences I get an error message. If the Blu-Ray disc was in the drive when the process started, I get a "Disc not ready" error message. If I have left the tray open and the backup process closes it automatically; I get a "Disc is full" message if the Blu-Ray disc is already formatted as UDF, or if it is unformatted I get a "Cannot write to disc" error.

If I try an incremental backup, the program starts burning to disc but instructs me to insert another disc after copying roughly 2GB - leaving more than 20GB free space on the disc.

Will.

Not to deflect your particular issue, but just as an aside:

Consider backing up to a hdisk instead of optical media. You can get lots more backups on a hidsk than optis and the archival lifespan is about the same for hdisk and user-writable opti media, about 5 years. Hidsks will prove generally more versatile and much faster and they tend to be less senstive to storage temperature conditions than the dye on optis.

By the way, have you set the Split option in ATI -- I thnk the default is Auto but it might help to manually set it for your disks.

Hello all,

Scott, thank you very much for your suggestions. Personally, I'd prefer backing up to hard drives too.

William, I'll do my best to resolve the issue, but first I need soma additional information from your side.

Could you please collect AcronisInfo tool output as described at this KB article and then attach it to your reply to this thread or send me a Private Message with that information (if you concerned about the privacy).

This will allow me to investigate the issue thoroughly and to provide you with a solution.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hi Barry,
What exact error message are you receiving??
What does the log file say??

ATIH version/build is??

Windows version is??

BlueRay hardware is???
Media you are using is???

We need more info besides "File backup to BD-R fails."

Thanks

Thank you for asking:

Error message dialogs are:
1. “Please insert the first media” (tray opens, despite the fact that the media has already been loaded)
2. “Error occurred while writing the file”. (I then choose "Format" from the choices Retry, Browse, Format, Cancel; some time elapses while Acronis tries to calculate time remaining.)
3. “Error occurred while writing the file”.
4. "operation failed" message in the system tray.

ATIH 2012 build 7119
Windows 7 x64 with all updates installed
Blue Ray hardware is LG BH12LS38 internal SATA 12x Multi Blue
Media is Verbatim BD-R LTH type

This burner successfully recorded the same set of files using its own burning software.
