Backup corrupt while backing up

Thread needs solution

Hi,

i am using differetial backup to backup specified folders to my NAS.

I was running without problems till version b4_s3_v1, so it went correct 20 times. Now it didnt start the backup, "the specifig path does not exist". That info is not really usefull, because i can access the path from acronis and can open it and can test the connection, and it is fine!

I am using the same location for two  other backups, and they are fine!

How can i see, what the REAL problem concerning that backup is? when i try to validate, it says the path error, and backup is corrupt. Is it possible, to just delete the last one or two backups, and resume ? And how do i know, which backups to delete? Or is it necessary, to delete all and start over again? But then my belief in this as a reliable software gets cracked.

That in the Home-LastBackup-File fromAcronis

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

-<last_backups>

-<volumes>

-<volume>

<id>\local\hd_sign(06CB3D95)\part_sn(1752F8D001D029FE)start(64)</id>

<time>1455861994</time>

</volume>

</volumes>

</last_backups>

Please help.

Thx.

Hello, please take a look at the full log file for the problem backup task and check to see if a more specific message is given to indicate what actual error condition is being encountered.

The logs can be found in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs (which may be hidden on some systems) - you should check the service_(date & time).log created at the time of the error.  The logs can be viewed with a standard text editor and are in XML format.

Thank you for the log file, the pertinent line looks to be:

Cannot access the path: Z:\Backup_Diverses\xxxxxxx\(1)xxxxxxxxxx_inc_b4_s3_v1.tib

I assume that you may have changed the actual path name and replaced it with xxxxxxx's, but that is the file which ATIH is compaining about.  Can you open that file and browse its contents with ATIH?  Have you tried to Validate this file?

I validated it and it said it is corrupt.

The funny thing is, it tries to access the "(1)Martin_NAS_inc_b4_s3_v1" which exits already, and i can browse the file file and open content.

I haven´t changed anything on the folderstructure or passwords. And i cloned the backup settings and i did a new backup in the same folder and it works!

May it have something todo, i do backups via WLAN and sometimes via LAN?

It is an incremental backup. If ONE file this serie is corrupt, is the whole backup corrupt? Can i repair it, when just deleting the last backup?

How can I try, which specific backup file is corrupt? ATHI is very short on troublefindings and solutioins.

Thx.

Hello, if you have validated one of the incremental images and it is reported as being corrupt, then I would suggest validating the whole version chain to check there are no other corruptions.

If the other backups in the version chain validate successfully, then you can trust that chain upto the last valid image, but I would recommend starting a new version chain rather than trusting in just deleting the bad image - the Acronis database may still hold information related to the bad / deleted image and any further incrementals in the same chain may leave a gap in the changes that have occurred inbetween the different images.

Perhaps the safest approach is to keep your version chains fairly short, i.e. upto around 5 incrementals for each chain, then start a new full backup and chain.  Incremental backups have the advantage of being smaller in size that either a full or a differential backup image, but the disadvantage is the need for the whole version chain to be complete and valid in order to restore from it.  Differential images always store all changes since the last full backup, and therefore you can remove / delete any interim images and still have a valid chain to restore from, but the image sizes increase in size over time.
