!!Backup failed during cleanup, so it seems. Please help!!

Thread needs solution

Dear Forum members,

I am backing up to the Synology DS413 station with custom cleanup settings which should keep only two last backup chains. The backup type is Incremental, creating FULL backup every 20 incremental backups;

Couple of days ago TrueImage complained that there could not not enough space on my backup drive (SYNOLOGY disk station). I then:
1. Stopped the backup
2. Replaced one of the hard drives in the NAS to increase the storage;
3. DELETED the oldest backup chain "Gene_Backup_i7_All_Partitions_inc_b3_XXX" and "Gene_Backup_i7_All_Partitions_full_b3"

Now True image complains of non existent file every time the backup is run, even though it is trying to create a full backup, not incremental.

What do I do? Delete the backup settings and re-create them again? What about previous backup chains? Are they still valid?

The program is complaining about the loss of the target drive. The backup task is mated to that specific hard drive.
In order to use a new drive, you will need to create a new backup task pointing to the new target disk.
You can clone the backup task and then edit the cloned task changing the name of the new task and changing the destination to the new disk.
Backups will start at the beginning with a new full.

There is nothing wrong with the tib backup files as long as the inc files are all there and the S# is listed in sequence for that particular B#.
Note: In order to restore an inc backup, tghe full and all prior inc must be present for that particular b#.

It is a good practice for each backup task to have its own storage folder for storage of tib files.

I assume that when you deleted the files, you deleted all the files in that specific B3 backup. Hopefully, you used the TI program to delete the files and did not delete using the Windows Explorer delete?

In order to keep the last two chains, the backup scheme would also need to have the cleanup settings configured to
"Store no more than 2 recent version chains."
That would keep 2 chains of 21 files per chain.
Deletion of old chains would begin to occur after the full backup completion of backup #43.
