Backup process causes a crash after about 45 GB secured

Thread needs solution

Need to backup my "C" drive (Windows 8.1). Backup target is a new USB Drive. The Windows own backup works fine. Acronis 14 - I tried it 3 times - begins normally , just to let the PC switch itself off after about 45 GB have been transferred to the USB drive (dark screen, PC cold and dark). Bottom line: I can't use Acronis for a backup at this point of time.

Does anybody have an idea why it doesn't work and what to do to help the situation?

I would say that your Windows power management is the problem and possibly the USB drives power management. Seagate external drives have poser management built into the firmware of the drives that can shutdown the drive. If this occurs it would effectively stop the backup then sometime later Windows would see no activity and begin shutdown of the machine under it's own power management scheme. So do some investigating into the power management features of your hardware.
