Backup recovery C drive, new drive does not show when click "new location" to restore to

The new SSD drive does not show when I click "new location" when trying to recover a C drive full drive backup.
The drive shows fine in BIOS. Does the drive have to be initialized? The trial version does not let you initialize a drive.
