Backup scheduler running on different day

Thread needs solution

I'm having a problem with Acronis True Image Home 2012 where the backup is not running at the scheduled time. I have the schedule set for Saturday night at 11:00pm but this past week it started at 5:00pm on Thursday. I checked my the date and time on my machine and it is accurate. The machine never goes into sleep mode and it is idle at night so I can't explain why it kickoff on Thursday. The machine is an unattended machine which is acting as a shared server with only 2 external connections to the machine. I'm running the latest version of Home 2012 (6154 - December 2011) on Windows 7 x64.

Is there any chance you edited the task? Editing can cause strange happenings.

Consider switching from the Acronis scheduler to the Windows scheduler.
You use the 2012 Edit backup settings and create a desktop shortcut.
Switch the task to "do not schedule".
Then paste the shortcut info into the Windows scheduler based on your schedule.

No, I did not edit the backup settings. I only added the schedule to Acronis but it seems to backup whenever it wants not on the day it supposed to backup. Thanks for the suggestion, I will give that a try.

Richard,
One other place to look.
Open the schedule options and click on the advanced settings and make sure the option to "run when idle" is NOT checked.

If you have not used this method, this link provides some illustration but you will need to set the backup date to Saturday rather than by this example.

Richard (all), the issue you encountered is not unique to TI2012. My recollection from surfing the knowledge base and forums is that this situation has existed in several prior versions. I have TI2011 installed on several machines. On one, the schedule (for 3 separate backup jobs, 3 different start times) works flawlessly. On a second machine the scheduled tasks generally do not run on time, or if they do start at the correct time, they seem to 'go to sleep' for hours before finally completing what should have been a 10 - 15 minute backup. In some other cases the job starts from a sleeping computer on schedule at 10:30PM, generates a series of messages to the log, and then seems to sleep until the machine is again awakened by mouse movement the following morning.

This problem has driven me crazy, and remains unresolved. I have installed the 'updated' Scheduler as some have suggested, I have created new backup tasks as others have suggested, yet nothing seems to work. The machine does not hibernate but does sleep as all of my machines are permitted to do.

I have not tried the Windows Scheduler as mentioned in this thread even though I have used it for other tasks. Those other tasks do not have their own scheduler, so it seems reasonable to use the Windows function. Using Windows to schedule Acronis jobs seems like a ridiculous thing to have to do, given that Acronis should be doing the scheduling (no offense for the suggestion Grover). I have a thing about purchased products doing what they are supposed to do; if they don't its called a bug and bugs should be fixed.

If there ever is a fix from Acronis it will likely be called TI Version xxxx!

Hi AZMoosie,

No offense taken.

I agree with your assertion that the program should do what it advertises but that is not always possible for all computers. My suggestion are to provide possible workarounds so the user has a possible temporary solution--should they choose to use it.

Re: backup start times.
Here is a possible workaround for your two "problem schedulers". It is not a fix but it does work on those computers I have tested.
One thing I would do on both computers would be to open the power options and use the "restore to default" option on the normal use power setting. On my computer, my normal is the "balanced" setting.

My guess is that there is difference in the normal power settings between the 3 computers and I would attempt to match the non-working computer power options with the one that always works.

The shutdown command could be removed or changed to a "put into standby or hibernate" option.
