Backup Successful, but actually failed to save files
TIM 2012
In spite of the logs showing a warning that some of the files were not backed up, Acronis reported that the backup SUCCEEDED !!!
So without carefully reading every line in the log file after a backup completes, I cannot trust that my files were actually backed up :-(
I have been very frustrated with problems lately. Something in the configuration got corrupted, so it was saving backups using the filenames for other backup tasks ! Each individual chain became a separate backup task too. What a mess.
So I uninstalled, and installed everything to start from scratch.
Things are still not working correctly. I tested by manually starting the backup and it went fine.
However, the automatic backup that started at 4:00am was still running this afternoon (normally takes 5 minutes). This is a File Backup, Full. The TIM window showed the task was still running, calculating the estimated time to completion.
It showed that what it was doing was Cloning, which is a status I have never seen before and very odd, since this was a file backup.
In the logs, I see a message "Failed to create snapshot for backup". For some reason, the Windows Shadow Copy service was not running. I have turned that on, which should allow it to work in future.
I have Validate turned on. Not knowing that the files were correctly copied is a big concern.
The log only marked the failed file save as a Warning !
