A system backup will look for the system, active and boot partitions and back them using a disk and partition backup.
I recommend you create a disk and partition backup with all the partitions you have on your system disk, even if you decide to exclude specific user content folders if you are concerned by size or duration. Also make sure that this backup contains the active partition if, for any reason, this partition is not on your system disk.

Hi Pat L,
my question relates to the function 'disk backup - system'.
In my case 0.2 GB are used. Here only the registry is backed up?

No, the disk backup system should at least backup the C:\system partition. Maybe your disk set up is different and ATI cannot make it. Hence create a customer disk and partition backup as decribed above.

Hi, Pat L,
your answer: 'No, the disk backup system should at least backup the C:\system partition'
does not eliminate my ignorance.
The hard disk contains partitions C, H and I.
'C' contains Windows 7-system
What problems can I get rid of the backup and the restore 'system'?
Do I have definitely backup the C partition, if Windows will not boot, or do the backup of 'System'?

Hans,
To be able to restore our OS and applicationsm you should create:
- one backup of *all* the partitions on your disk. To do this, click on "disk and partition backup", click on the blue link in the upper right to "switch to disk mode" and check your system disk. Then you can adjust the other backup parameters. If you don't want to include the content of H and I, add file exclusions to the backup (see help),
- any file backup that you need if you exclude content from the disk and partition backup above.

Hi Pat L,
I'm sorry that my questions are clearly not well placed.
I have attached a hard copy.
Now my question: what is the backup for if I save only 'system'?

Hans,
The system small partition is probably the active partition on your system. This partition contains the boot files. This is why ATI selects it by defaut with the C:\ partition.
For the goal of being able to restore your OS and applications in case of a crash or disk death:
- you must include the system and C:\ partition in the same backup,
- you should include the HDD-recovery partition, H and I partitions, also this is not required for an advanced user. If you are not very comfortable with disks and systems, you should include it.
Don't hesitate to continue asking for clarification if I don't understand. I can try my rusty German reading as well :-)
PS: I recommend you add a label to the C:\, H:\ and I:\ partitions. Call C:\ OS for example, of Win7, or whatever name you want. This will be handy when you restore.
