Backup of Windows Live Mail 2011 with ATI 2012

Thread needs solution

Hallo,

I'm still waiting since over 1 year to get an working Backup of E-Mail with Acronis True Image Home. First I wait for a working E-Mail Backup of Outlook 2010 with ATI2011 and now with ATI2012 E-Mail-Backup of Windows Live Essential 2011 Mail don't work successful. I meanwhile could find out, that TI cann't backup Emails from Windows Live Mail, which are greater than 10 MByte. I have 3 Mail of this size in my Email input folder (.eml files) and TI stops working on the first of this 3 Emails. The program hangs and the running task could not be canceled with "cancel"-button or with "cancel" on TrueImageMonitor-icon in task bar. I have to terminate the process TrueImageHomeService.exe with task manager to get the task stopped.

I think this is a very shameful error produced by Acronis TI developer.

To get a successful backup of my windows live mail, I have to delete all Emails greater than 10 MByte from my input folder or others too. This could't be the solution.

Meanwhile Acronis released two new builds (6097 and 6131), but the error is not disposed of the software TI.

Hello Helmut,

Thank you for comment. I will do my best to help you.

I am really sorry to hear about this issue and we really appreciate your feedback. After carefully checking our internal resources I did not find any issues related to Windows Live Mail backups and 10 MB size limitation. I will forward this issue to our Testing Lab so that we can reproduce it from our side and provide you with a solution.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Thank you Anton, that you accept this issue and forward it to your Testing Lab. I'm waiting more than one year to get a working Acronis True Image Home 2011/2012. Perhaps I am the only user of TI, who has Windows Live Mail greater than 10 MB size received from friends. T-Online has not the limitation in email size with 10MB like Microsoft Exchange Server, there the limit is 26 MB size. Also Acronis has a limitation in receiving emails greater than 10 MB size, so how can you test this? Your system administration has to change this limit in your mail server to a greater value.

regards
Helmut F.

I recently upgraded to '12 and was happy to see that my emails could be backed up, happy at least until I tried it. Backup hangs and never completes. It also refuses to be cancelled. I get this error code 0x00580009, which has no article addressing the issue in your support section. The event log also says "error while initiating com library." After allowing the backup to go all night I had to close the program and then found my Windows Live wouldn't open because of a "corrupted file in the calender". I had to delete and reinstall the mail app to get it to run (this happened twice). Any help would be appreciated.

Hallo Henry Sanchez,

have you Windows Live Mail 2010 or Windows Live Mail 2011?
I have a second windows 7 installation, also with ATI2012 and Windows Live Mail 2011: there email backup works fine, but in the input folder of this email program I don't have email greater than 10 MByte. The cancel problem may here also be present, but I can't check it, because the only some few emails are backuped very quick, so it is barely possible to cancel it.
The problem with "corrupted file in the calender" I had earlier with Windows Live Mail 2010, but I don't remember how I solved it. Possible I found a solution by searching with google in the internet and by deleting some or one file from Windows Live Mail user folder C:\Users\\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail. Look there for calendars.

I have had the same problem with "corrupted file in the calendar". There is a program in Windows 7 called "Windows Live Essentials" that you can find under the Programs and Installations tool (the one you use to remove programs). Its near the bottom, if you click on the application it gives you two choices - 1.Uninstall and 2. Repair. If you select "Repair" it takes about 5 minutes to repair problems with Windows live and several other applications. That (at least for me) always removes the "Corrupted file in the calendar" without having to remove and reinstall windowls live

Hallo Ed,

you got it, that is fine. But my problem with ATI2012 and Windows Live Mail 2011 is not caused by corrupted file in the calendar but by emails greater than 10 MByte, which could ATI2012 not backup and ATI2012 backup task got frozen by trying to do this.

My problem is exactly the same as Henry Sanchez. Luckily I am only using a trail version, and I don't think I will be buying a full version if I cannot be absolutely sure my emails are being backed up. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows Live Mail 2011: I have got this with Windows 7 SP1 on a new laptop. I carried oWver about 140k of old mail files from my old XP machine, (from MS outlook 6) and installed them under Storage Folders in WLM2011 - no problem. I later got Acronis True Image 2012, because it is a brand I have learned to trust, having successfully restored my old machine twice. So I set up Acronis for full backup on an external disk for periodic backup, and for current files on a USB flash for daily use - all OK!

I also set up the mail backup for WLM2011 to the USB flash, and it appeared to run OK.

Till I checked the size of the backup files! which was only about 40 k. Investigation showed that all the Storage Folders are missing, and there is no way to specify Storage Folders in the setup. and they are therefore ignored.

How do I get this to work, or can it be made to work? previous forum entries make me doubt this!

(In the meantime I have installed KLS Mail Backup, a cheap and cheerful freebie, which does find all my mail, and does the job, except that I need to run it manually daily.)

No miracle. Acronis mail backup don't work correctly, neither in TI2011 nor TI2012. Forget mail backup with Acronis software, use another software for this, i.e. Nero Autobackup or simply copy cyclically the windows live folders to an usb drive or use the sync functionality from Acronis True Image 2012.

Backup for Windows Live Mail from Windows 7 with Acronis #12: How to do it.

See my comment from last Wednesday..... You can't do it from the "Other Backups -> E-mail backups" option, but you can do it from "File Backup"; all the Email stuff is kept in the folder:

C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

... so you just need to set this for your file selection.

How NOT to do it !! fao Acronis:

I had the opportunity to download the latest Acronis #13 f.o.c. since i had just recently bought Version 12. I had hoped that they would have got the E-mail thing fixed by now.... no such luck.

Worse than that, the file selection windows for file backups seem to be unstable; I was revising my file backups, but when I ran the revised backup it started saving stuff I hadn't asked for.... after wasting a few hours this way, I threw out #13 and went back to #12, where all was well again.

PS. My  mail  files were actually 140MB, not 140kB as I wrote on  Wednesday.

PPS. You can also do this selective file backup with Windows Backup (Control Panel -> System and Security -> Backup and restore ) for free.

James,

Can you describe the problems you had with 2013 file backup, ideally in the 2013 forum?
