Backups failing after replacing hard disc drive

Backups failing after replacing hard disc drive
True Image 2013 build #6514
Win XP SP3
TI backs up from (Pilgrim 7) Drive C: to a WD NAS.
error message “cannot find service partition with path “local\hd_sign\ etc etc.”
Circumstance: I replaced the old (WD 750GB 2.5 form factor) hard disc on Pilgrim 7 with a new hard disc . The new hard disc drive is identical to the old one (except it works (internal cache apparently failed)!).
The new drive was partitioned and formatted by Win XP disk management. The content of the old drive was cloned to the new drive using Acronis cloning software.
After installing the new drive, all works as expected. No issues, except for the TI error message.
I understand that the new hdd has a different ID than the old one.
Three questions:
1) Must I create new backups for the new hdd or can I rename/reclaim the old for the new?
2) If I create a new backup, do I have to run it, or can I “transfer” the old backup data to the new backup file?
3) Once I am up and running, how do I get rid of the old backups, data not transferred on the NAS, and the related catalogues, etc on my computer (Pilgrim 7).
Thanks very much for your help.

When you cloned, did you install the new blank disk inside the computer before cloning?

Before first boot after cloning, was the new cloned disk the only disk connected?

Kep the old backups for emergency but start a new series of backups.
Create a new backup task and point the new backups to a new folder so the backups for the new task has its own folder.
My recommendation is always point a new task to a new folder.
Example of my recommneded backup scheme can be found in signature link 2 below.
Note the very first illustration which is my recommended type of backup.
Illustrations 11-Full or 11-Inc or 11-Dif are examples of my recommended backup schemes.
Using automatic cleanup helps to prevent disk full error messages.

Thanks for the response.
"Did you install the new blank disk inside the computer before cloning?"
No. The new HDD was partitioned and formatted using Win XP disc management. New hdd was connected as a usb hang-on, assigned drive letter f. After formatting it was cloned as target (usb) using Acronis cloning software from a cd.

"Before first boot after cloning, was the new cloned disk the only disk connected?"
Yes. Only external drive connected was the new hhd -target.

"My recommendation is always point a new task to a new folder."

So, is your answer OLD backups cannot be imported/merged into NEW backups?

"Keep the old backups for emergency but start a new series of backups."
Because TI is not recognizing the OLD content cloned to the new drive, how can the old backups restore to the new drive?

Thanks for the help.

The Acronis suggested clone procedure for laptops. If using lenova, this is almost the only way.

I am not aware of any method of merging an old and new. It may be possible to add a new inc or dif backup to the existing file if the backup was done via the CD. Frankly, I would not want to plan a recovery based on using two mixed backups.

Files from the old backup can be copied or restored from the backup onto the new disk but this must not be done via a "partiton or disk restore" as that would simply replace the new with the old.

Thanks. I was hoping I would not have to start fresh, but....
As far as cloning old to new, I did it "the other way" than recommended by Acronis. As mentioned before, before cloning I had partitioned, formatted and assigned a letter to the the new drive, as a usb hang-on, using winxp disc manager. I left the old drive in the laptop, cloned to the new one as a usb hang-on, and then pulled the old drive and popped in the new one. Booted right up. It worked! Maybe just dumb luck. Next time, I will follow the Acronis advice.
Thanks again.
