Backups Not Deleted
I have True Image 2012 Build 6131. My backup procedure is "full version after 7 incrementals. Store no more than 6 version chains". If doing many important changes I manually do a backup. I have noticed that sometimes a backup is not deleted as part of the "store no more than 6 version chains" and the chains either side of the backup have been deleted. I think these remants are my manual backups. Am I safe to delete these or will it impact on the other backups. Any assistance appreciated

David,
How do you perform your manual backups? Knowing this might help. Does your task create 'disk & partition" type backups or "files only" type backups?
Do you open the program and use the "Backup now" option?
or, did you use the provided option to create a desktop shortcut?
or did you use another method to create a desktop shortcut?
Using the provided option to create the backup task does seem to work at keeping the proper number of backups but this success may vary depending upon whether the task has been edited.
When creating a task, it always helps to point the task to an empty folder or the same folder but to a new sub-folder.. Acronis says it is "ok" to mix but mixing has caused problems so my suggestion is to avoid mixing.
Editing a task seems to cause issues. My advice is do not edit and create a new task when editing needed. The old task can be switched to "do not schedule" or it can be deleted.
Right click on your backup task and click on the "Explore & Recover" option. Maybe the resulting Window can help you to determine which backups are related to that specific task.

Thank you both for your responses.
GroverH - I manually perform a backup when I have made major changes. Do do this, I open ATI, and select backup now. The remnant files are "file backups". I haven't edited the tasks which have been in place since November. I am reluctant to delete the "remnants" without being sure of the ramifications.
I have found ATI it to be an excellent backup choice.

David,
If you cannot see the orphaned backup versions in the "backup explorer" window of ATI (when you choose to explore all versions), then ATI is not trakcing them, and you can safely delete them.
If you see them, try to delete them first within ATI. If that fails, delete them manually and move on...

If you see backups listed separately from others made with the same task, you can click on the path in the backup listing for that backup, this will open an explorer window and you can delete them there, then back at the ati backups lists, click on the backup name (on the top left of the listing), this will bring up a message that the backup cannot be found, click on Ignore and ati will then remove it from the list. Continue this for all the backups you want to get rid of. This way, ati will update its database correctly. Arduous and not intuitive or user friendly, but that's how it's currently designed.
