Backup.zip file

Thread needs solution

I have been creating backup.zip files but I cannot open the file after it has been created. I get the message that "THE ARCHIVE IS EITHER IN UNKNOWN FORMAT OR DAMAGED" I have back tried with different files but all the same result.

In backup tasks created with build 6614 the resulting .zip is actually a .tib file - if you rename it, it will be possible to open in Windows explorer as a .tib file. It's possible to edit corresponding backup script manually - open one of files in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts\ in a text editor, replace increment_type="incremental" with increment_type="full" and format="tib" with format="zip"

I am running Windows 7. I went to Users\All Users\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts. There are a bunch of files ending with .tib.tis but I could not edit any of these files. Are these the files you were referring to ?

I wondered why I couldn't open zip files created by True Image. Since this is a known issue, how long do we have to wait for a fixed version?

Hi Fedor you are right. I renamed the extension of the zip file created from .zip to .tib and I am able to open the file now. It means it never really created a zip file. Is there a way to create a zip file or does that mean you can not create a zip file under any condition.

Yes, that seems to be what is happening. It creates the file with a .zip extension but it is actually a .tib file.

Are you sure that you replaced it (all occurrences) in the correct script file?

I notice this was not corrected in build 6673. What is the priority and status of this defect?

I was also unable to affect the behavior by editing the script as suggested (continues to create a TIB-format file).

This still seems to be an issue.

I'm running ATI 2014 (build 6673) on Windows 7 Pro and am trying to recover from a disk corruption.

I've managed to download data files that I need from Acronis Cloud (as a .zip file) and hit the problem described earlier in the thread - Windows unable to open the file and Acronis unable to add the file to the backup list.

I've changed the file extension from.zip to .tib and Windows now recognises the file as an Acronis backup file. However, Acronis still refuses to add the file to its backup list, showing an error message of:

"Failed to add the backup to the backup list. The backup may be locked or corrupted. Also make sure the folder contains the last volume of the backup and does not contain a renamed copy of the same backup."

I've dpwnloaded the same files twice with the same result. There is only one file in the folder, so a second copy isn't causing a problem. The comment about making sure the folder contains the last volume of the bacxkup doesn't actually mean anything to me as a novice, so that might be the problem.

If anyone could suggest a next move, I'd be grateful.

I just updated to build 6688. Zip still saves in tlb format. Since Acronis doesn't seem to want to fix this issue, then I see no reason to spend anymore money on Acronis products. I am aware of the 'hack' to the script above, but that is not a program fix. If the hack is known, why won't Acronis fix it.

I totally agree with you. I do not think the Zip idea ever worked or implemented. To me it is misleading and after two years or more without any attempt to fix it, I gave up. Like you I cannot see my self doing any further investment in the product.
