Bad Install

Thread needs solution

I downloaded and installed Acronis True Image Home 2012 to update version 2011. Of course, the download is the complete program, but probably because I was updating I installed over version 2011 - bad mistake! My computer kept locking up and when I activated the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager it somehow damaged my Master Boot Record and I could not reboot. It took me one whole afternoon and evening to sort out the mess.

I did try uninstalling version 2011 but I think the damage had already been done, In the end I had to restore an earlier backup using my Acronis
Recovery Boot Disk. This restored version 2011 and now my computer is
working properly again. I should probably try re-installing version 2012
again but I will wait and see if anyone else has any problems with it.
It has cost me too much time this weekend!

Rodger,

If it happens again select F8 and choose 'restore last known good configuration' from the Windows boot menu choice, most times this will make restoring an image unneccessary if it is just a new driver fault.

Acronis Startup Recovery Manager will alter your MBR as it becomes a boot loader.

I suggest deactivate the ASRM (if activated uninstall 2011, uninstall the Plus Pack 2011 (if installed) reboot the PC, then install 2012.

Thanks Colin,

I did try the "restore last known good configuration" with no success.
I will try your suggestions after a break to recover my composure!

Hi Colin - your advice was spot on! I followed your instructions and the install went smoothly with no problems.
Thanks again.
