Booting from ATI image

Thread needs solution

I tried booting from ATI image. It resulted in creating VHD file out of ATI image. Then I did not know what to do next to boot from the VHD. Could anyone help?

If you have Windows Pro or Ultimate, you can use the Acronis Sequence manager to boot directly into an Acronis image. You can also convert the TIB file to a VHD file, attach that file to the system, and then use the Windows boot manager to boot in to it.

How does it boot from an Acronis image ? I too tried but it got converted to vhd before I could add to the boot manager.

This help document states it has to be converted to vhd first to boot it.

Booting from a tib image of your Windows 7 system partition

http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ATIH2012/index.html#9585.h…

Because actual booting is performed from VHD, the program needs to convert the selected tib file so the appropriate dialog will appear.

That is right. As you select your TIB file to boot from it is automatically converted to VHD. You can also convert it to VHD separately and use other boot managers to use it.

I think Pat meant to say Ultimate and Enterprise can boot from VHD's, if you have Pro you won't see the Acronis Sequence Manager option (don't bother asking me how I know :) )

We can also access the files in VHD by attaching in Windows disk manager console

....or with diskpart

DISKPART
SELECT VDISK FILE=D:\Windows7Ultimate.vhd
ATTACH VDISK

There is also a free utility by R1Soft called Hyper-V VHD Explorer which can do it.
