Bootmgr is missing

Thread needs solution

It appears that my home computer was infected by a virus last Friday. I tried to restore a few saved tib files with 2013 ATI bootable disk. Restore was OK. But the restored windows was still sick.
I deleted C-partition. It was reformatted. After than, one of the recent tib files was restored. with bootable disk. Windows 7 was not booted but I see an error message on the screen:

Bootmgr is missing.

Is there a way to fix this error (without re-installing Windows 7)?

Jeorge,
Your recovery likely depends on the disk configuration and what partition structure the back up image you are restoring from contains.

In windows 7, the Boot Mgr is typcally stored in the 100mb System Reserved partition that windows 7 automatically creates when it's installed on a unpartitioned disk. If the drive you are installing to contains a partition, set up wil install the boot manager on the same partition where windows is being installed. If you have a second drive attached, setup wil actually install the System Reserved partition on that drive and install windows on your target disk.

There are several possible solutions. Since we only have limited information, I'll make the following suggestions. If you feel your disks partition structure is intact, but the system cannot start because of incorrect boot mgr configuration.... I would start the system from your Windows 7 install CD and perform a start up repair. This can be done automatically from the System Recovery Options or manually from a command prompt. Instructions can be found easily using google.

or... If you have a ful disk image back of your drive, I would restore it to the failed system. Look under Grover's True Image guides in the left hand pane for detailed instructions.
