Can I create a dual boot from an image
I have recently come to realise I need a dual booting Windows 7 system. That is two versions of Windows 7 on seperate partitions.
I have a full disk backup of the original install.
Is it as simple as creating a partition and then simply cloning the image there? Or is it like everything else with Windows 7, not as simple as you might first think?
Thanks

Hello miden,
Let me help you with this dual boot situation.
It's not so simple as you may think. Even if you clone your drive to another partition and leave both drives attached - your PC will recognize only one OS. Furthermore, this may cause a boot issue, because the information on two drive is identical, this may confuse the PC.
The simplest solution is to install second boot system from scratch. I assume you want to create dual boot system of Windows 7 + Windows 7, please take a look at this guide. It describes on how to dual boot Vista + Windows 7, but the general procedure in your case would be the same.
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.
Thank you.

miden,
You may want to look at this thread about a similar issue. It is quite lengthy but helpful.

Having a second disk for your second copy means you can choose which to boot from within the Bios.
Having multiple partitions on the same disk requires a boot manager.
Suggest you use Windows Disk Management and assign a different drive letter to any external drives such as x or y or z. Likewise, you may want to consider re-assigning higher drive letters to your cdrom, etc. Doing so will clear these drive letters for use on you multiple partitions.
Also suggest that you assign a unique name to system partition to both the original and then to the copied partition. You need to always be certain as to which partition is the current boot drive as the current boot drive will always be letter c. You can get confused very easily unless the your revised volume name provides the correct detail.
