Cannot backup outlook - access denied

Thread needs solution

As many others who have posted access denied problems with outlook, I am also having problems. Even if I run the backup manually with outlook running the backup fails. I am running outlook 2003, yeah a bit old but it works. Does anyone know of a tool/app that I can use to shutdown outlook that I can use as a pre-command?
I can't believe True Image provides for an outlook backup that doesn't work with outlook open, what's the point. You can get an app that can be added to outlook that will create a backup of the pst file when outlook is closed. Might as well use that if I have to close outlook prior to a backup. It's too bad, I was really hoping that True Image would provide all of my backup needs, argh!

I am unable to backup outlook 2003 at all with the latest version of true image. It will not let me back up the files themselves, and freezes (says "time left calculating" indefinitely) when I tell it to do an e-mail backup. Doesn't matter if outlook is running or not.

Greetings,
These issues are often difficult to diagnose over the internet. There are so many varibles that can cause an outlook back up to fail. Common causes are:

Credentials
File Permissions
Other services running in the background
Program add ons, Contact Managers, Anti Virus / SPAM
Multiple Inboxes in the same profile (pop3, IMAP)
Corrupt .PST

@coltrane, ATI is able to make back ups of files which are currently in use buy the OS, so there is likely another reason why your back up is failing. Credentials, file permissions or another system operation maybe?

Typically a failed operation will have an error message in the task's log file. This is the first place to start.
