Cannot configure SMTP

Thread needs solution

When I try to configure True Image to send me an email via SMTP it either locks up or crashes. The app actually crashes and stops running.

I am trying to configure to use gmail SMTP with port 587 and secure connection with user name and password.

I am able to enter the exact same settings into Online Backup and it works! True Image does not work.

I have used Acronis for at least 5 years. I've never seen so many bugs as I'm seeing in True Image and Online Backup before. Is their quality going down or what?

I do like the interface and configuration process in 2011 much better than 2010 though. Thanks for fixing that. Now please fix the bugs.

And it seems that nobody at Acronis is listening.

John,

There is a known issue with gmail and the port 587. No workaround while waiting for a fix.

Thanks Pat. Why would it work in the Online Backup product but not True Image?

I don't know... Something to fix.

I've been using and supporting several versions of Acronis for the past five years and this 'feature', while included, has never functioned as it should. For 'Notifications' to function the User is required to have a private hosted domain and control of email accounts on that domain.

Unfortunately Acronis doesn't seem to care much about it or they would have responded in a responsible manner by addressing this perpetually failing component. This is compounded by their less then enthusiastic approach to providing after sales support. Once past the 30 day mark, unless the User is willing to pay for support your stuck in the Forums, KB's and FAQs.

When purchasing TIH2011, I had hoped these simple problems would have been corrected in components being touted as features 'Home Users' would want to be able to employ. Features embodying common elements the balance of the IT industry has already demonstrated as being simple and straight forward to provide.
