Cannot create backup from bootable media
I'm new here and hope someone can help me. The Acronis helpdesk cannot at this moment in time...
My problem is quite simple: I have a bootable CD and using this I want to make an image to an external Harddisk using TrueImage 2013 (latest build). The HD is 4 Tb (!) and connected via USB 3. The HD is an WD MyBook Essential.
No matter which system I try this on, the backup starts normally but stops after a few seconds. When (after waiting) I stop and disconnect, errors are left behind on my HD. I can later repair these under Win7 with Scandisk, after which the HD is OK again.
The HD has no problems, all sectors are OK (!!!) and backups do function under Windows.
I suspect that the Unix environment which is used by Acronis for their bootable media does not support these large USB connected disks. The Acronis helpdesk even made me try another product (Backup and Recover 11.5) and I get exactly the same problem, basically supporting this thought...
Has anyone ever tried this? I'd really like to hear your experiences! Thanks!

Did you create the bootable disk after having updated ATI to the very last build 6514?

Philip Sydell wrote:My Bootable disc created from Acronis Home2013 won't boot my computer. I have a new Laptop from Toshiba running Windows 8 64bit. What is wrong? I have made the disc choice in the bios so that it will seek the disc drive first. The restore discs that came with the computer boot fine. Acronis, you have to fix this problem.
Phillip, perhaps you'd like to consider creating your own thread for your issue. That way the original poster's problem won't be overlooked because of you.

The Missing Link,
Do you know whether your 4 TB disk has GPT partition style? or how many partitions?

@Missing Link,
Does your WD drive also have USB2 connectors? If it does, it would be worth trying this so that the problem can be narrowed down as in, is the USB 3.0 or the size of the drive causing the problem.
@Philip
Would you give more details please, do you get error messages, at what point does the CD fail?
Or is it that the CD just isn't recognised by the system at all and the laptop just boots straight into Windows? If this is the case, check to see if your BIOS/UEFI has a priority setting for the various boot devices, if it does, move the CD up to the highest priority for the moment.

This is a new Toshiba Satellite computer witn Windows 8 factory installed. All of the USB ports are USB3. The disc is recognized to some extent and then the screen goes blank. At that point I have to restart the computer. As I said before, my recovery discs boot fine and my boot disk on my Windows 7 machine boot OK. I think that Acronis needs to get their programmers to work this out. I have used Acronis for many years and never had this problem.

Sorry, I only found out that there were responses to my post just now (as I posted again)... Email alerts haven't come through as it seems..
My HD was and is a standard WD external MyBook drive with ONE partition

Just USB3, but Acronis says they have identified the problem... I just don't see the fix out there yet...
