Cannot find file or folder - windows has changed portable drive letter

Thread needs solution

I have been using True Image for a few months, and making incremental backups to G:\Backup folder on a portable hard drive. For some reason, windows 7 has reassigned the portable drive letter to H

Now True Image gives an error message: "can't find the file or folder. If it is located on a removable media or remote storage, then make sure that the storage device is connected .... etc" And there is no way I can find to tell the software where the backup has moved to.

So it is now useless... Any thoughts on this?

I have a similar problem, and fixed the drive letter assignment for the external drive and started a "new" backup. Unfortunately, True Image seems to keep trying to access the old files (to consolidate the backup archive?) which it can't find, so even the new backups give a backup failed message. I've tried deleting these new ones but that operation runs on for days until I force a reboot.

I have the same problem.

Bill,
If you are talking about the drive letter issue, the change of letter by Windows was caused by your attachment of some device (flash drive or camera or printer, etc) which needed a drive letter.
Use Windows explorer and view the directory and remove the recently inserted device so the original drive letter will be freed.

Once the originalo drive letter is freed, then use Windows Disk Management and assign the correct drive letter to the target disk permanently.
