Cannot find version 1 ..........
Anyone found a working solution for this problem...?
I had a hard system crash and had to reinstall the windows operating system.. I had a full (single version) backup ( C and F drives ) when I tried to retrieve data from the backup, I could access the F drive without problem. Every time I try to go into the C drive I get the cannot find version 1 error..
I have run the Validate option (maybe 50 x with no success.. I don't get an ignore option, so Acronis told me to hit cancel and re-start the validation.. still stops at the same point every time ( 45 mins left to run)
At this point I am just trying to retrieve the Outlook DB files and have forgotten about trying a full recovery..
Been using True Image for a long long time and never had this issue before, I always run a single version backup onto an external usb linked hard drive..
anyone have idea's or should I give up ?
Cheers,

Hi Steve, just tried that.. Same result, it'll allow me to see data on the F partition, but not the C drive.. version 1 error , cannot find ....
what exactly is it looking for and it it stored in the backup file as metadata?
Cheers..

Steve, the 'cannot find version x' error is normally associated with files that have been deleted outside of using the tools provided by Acronis such as automatic cleanup and the clean up versions tool provided in ATI 2019 and later.
Acronis tracks files using an internal database (which isn't used by the rescue media, hence that suggestion). There is other metadata used within backup files but Acronis has never documented what this is or how it works!
Typically, users should be able to click on one of the options given by the error message and repeating this action multiple times as needed, but it is obvious that this does not always work depending on what the actual root issue is?
Using a single version scheme should not be expected to hit this type of issue as Acronis should resolve any metadata and database issues automatically as each new single version is created and any previous existing backup is deleted.

Thanks Steve, Acronis support told me to keep repeating attempts to Validate, I am up to 50 or 60 and it's still stopping at the same point.. Think I'll run to 100 attempts and then call it a day..
It seems strange to me that I can get data out of the backup file for the F drive but not the C drive, so whatever metadata they have in there looks like it seperate for each drive partition.. Also strange they don't have a repair tool available, given how many people seem to have this issue...
Cheers

Steve, I somehow doubt that just repeating the validation up to 100 times will make any difference here!!
Looking forward, I can only suggest taking a different approach and not using single version unless you have several such backup tasks going to different storage destinations!
It is recommended to take a 3 - 2 - 1 approach, i.e. make at least 3 different backups, using at least 2 different storage media and with 1 backup stored offline or off-site for physical security against threats of theft, damage (fire, flood etc), and malware attack.
On my own main system(s) I use the above approach coupled also with using a second backup application (Macrium Reflect) for any vital / important data. MR also offers a free version of their software to help users try out the features. I use that on friends / family PC's when they are brought to me for help / repair etc, so that I have an easier task next time I see them!

good advice, thanks and yes agree, seems like there is a file problem that's blocking access to the C drive partition. I did have an older (3 months) full system backup version on a different external HD, that I pulled data from, so not as bad as it could have been.. But this has knocked my confidence in Acronis so probably look for another solution going forward..
Thanks for your help..
