Cannot seem to create rescue media on USB Flashdrive
Hello,
I've been trying to create a rescue flashdrive instead of CD for use with an Asus netbook that does not have a cd drive. I have followed the directions for Grub by mudcrab but I cannot get that program to find any drives such that I can progress down that pathway. I'm using XP on an atom processor with 2 gb ram. The USB stick is a Sandisk cruiser working well.
I also tried using the ATI bootable rescue media creator and while those files all are loaded on the flashdrive, it will not boot (I have indeed changed the boot order in the bios of the netbook).
Not sure what to do next. I've searched and done everything suggested...any ideas? I'm sort of a newb to ATI so don't assume that I know anything!
Cheers and thanks!

Google HP flash drive and give that approach a try.

If the Grub4DOS installer (the GUI program) doesn't see the flashdrive on the netbook, you could run the program on a different computer and see if it works better. The flashdrive can be setup/configured on another computer.

Thanks MudCrab -- would thaother computer need to be of the same OS? My other PC is a 64 bit Vista while the laptop is XP.

No, the OS is not an issue in making the bootable flash drive. Have you tried the flash drive you made with the True Image Bootable Media Creator on another computer that is *capable* of booting from a flash drive?

Update: Have tried a USB flash drive, an external USB Cavaiar drive, and a SD card. All are recognized in the boot sequence but none will boot no matter what I choose in the boot priority options in the bios (or by hitting esc).
I've noticed that all of the device boot options are listed in the bios but are in brackets. There is a paragraph off to the right of the bios screen that says something to the effect that anything in parentheses has been disabled...WTF?
Not sure what's up here but finding it frustrating that it takes days and days to figure out the nuances of how ATI runs on a particulare machine and still can't get a simple boot disk made!

I was running TIWorkstation v9 and managed to create a bootable USB HD. It works a wonder
I boot from the USB HD and backup/restore directly with it
Acronis Media Builder > created ISO file
UltraISO > write bootable disk with ISO file
I tried with Acronis TIH 2010, 2011 but it doesn't work. The boot sequence retruns infinite error messages
UltraISO does say the HD will not boot properly

I did not have any trouble creating a BOOT USB Disk using TIH2011 with Plus Pack Installed.
I went to Tools and Utilities, Rescue Media Builder, Selected the parameters (All) and when I got to the "Select a drive to be used to create bootable media"... there was my SanDisk along with my CD drive...
I selected the USB disk and it created the bootable disk.
I then booted my machine, went into bios and set the first boot drive as "Removable", booted again with the USB stick installed and viola...Acronis was up and ready to work.
