Cant access Image
Hello,
i have a problem with an Image i made with Acronis True Image Home 2012.
I created a complete image from my HDD with Boot CD. My disk had 2 partitions.
c:\ - 460GB ( about 200GB used )
d:\ - 20GB
Backup has been finished and succesfully validated. After reinstalling my PC i mounted the Image and got some Files from it, worked fine so far.
Now i had to got some more Files from the image which i forgot before and i cannot Mount, Browse or Recover anything from the Image anymore.
The Image contains 45 *.tib files which are 4GB each. I can still access File 44.tib and 45.tib which contains partition E, but i cant access all the Image Files before them.
Validating doesnt work too, gives me Error-Code:
0x01010005+0x01010005+0x01EF0013+0x000B041D+0x00040011+0x0000FFF0+0x80070002
Message is: Hinzufügen des Backups zur Backup-Liste fehlgeschlagen ( Adding Backup to Backup List failed )
When i try to Double Click the Backup File it says:
Error while Opening Backup Archive.
Backup may be broken.
( the actual message is in german so thats just my ppor translation of the error messages ).
Seems like 1.tib is kind of damaged for whatever reason. Actually iprobably dont really need the files from the first tib file but would like to access the others somehow.
Is there any way to do so ?
Thanks in advance for any kind of help.
Kind regards,
chris

Hi,
yea the backup was split into 4GB chunks, 45 files each 4GB.
Already tried moving the Backup to another device which didnt work though, same error :/
Im wondering how this can happen since the backup worked before and then out of a sudden its corrupted. Is no way to access the other files or kind of "fake" the first file so he opens the other files ?

Hello Wildcard,
Thank you for posting on our Forum. Please allow me to address your issue.
We appreciate your input shadowsports - thank you.
From the error messages and the description of the situation, it is highly likely that one or more of your split backups have been rendered corrupt, and the possible reasons for this may be faulty hardware of the machine, during data transfer to and from a network share or USB drive, or simply due to faulty transfer cables that did not manage to properly send the backups intact.
Therefore, is it possible that you tried to transfer these split backups to another location at some point, which could have rendered one of the 4 GB backup chunks as corrupt, which as shadowsports mentioned would disallow the mounting of the backup as a whole if the backup chunks are not intact.
Could you please provide us with any details as to what changes you could have made to your system prior to discovering that your backups were corrupt and following your successful mount attempts and file recovery operations from your backup archives.
With regards to your question as to whether Acronis True Image Home 2012 could "fake" the corrupt backup chunk as healthy, so to speak, I regret to say that this will not be possible in almost all of the cases, as all the backup chunks are dependent on one another with the mount process querying each and every one of the backup chunks through the assigned ID number for each and treating the backup as a whole as a result. Intending on leaving out one of the backup chunks would not only be very difficult to implement, but would not guarantee a successful outcome in the end.
Please let me know if I can be of assistance with any other questions or issues you may have, as I will be glad to help address them.
For additional questions regarding any of our products or services please contact Acronis Customer Central, taking a look at our Customer's Handbook in the process.

Hello Volkan,
thanks for you answer.
The Backup has been made to an internal Hard Drive of the PC.
No changes has been made to the System. Actually it was on the same day the backup wouldnt mount anymore.
Backup has been created at about 12:30pm and verified succesfully. Then i mounted the backup to grab some Data from it. After that i mounted the Backup a few more times this day to get Data. On evening of the same day the backup wouldnt mount anymore out of a sudden. The Backup has not been moved anywhere since it has been created.
I have copied the Backup files to an external Hard Drive now and checked around at work a little. I checked the files with a Hex editor and saw that the first line is identical in each chunk. Made a test backup with 20 chunks to verify the first line is identical in each file.
Now when i open the Volume 1 of my "real" backup, i noticed the first line is not identical to the other 44 files. i just tried adding it and then tried mountig the backup again which didnt work, though the he doenst give me error to specify volume 1 anymore.
Just seems like a whole bunch of information is missing at the beginning of volume 1, and also there is a huge part in the file just marked with 00 00 00 ... so there must be many information missing.
I also now tried to copy Volume 2 and rename it to Volume 1 and then set the Hex at offset 14 ( which after a lot of looking through the hex information is the offset to specify the volume part number ) to 01. But didnt help either, thoug he seems to accept it as volume 1 ( no message to select volume 1 ) it still says the file is corrupted.
Im at work at the moment, maybe i check if the original file has more information in it.. if not im kinda lost i think.
Best regards,
chris

wildcard,
I am impressed by the forensics you are going through! Unfortunately, it is unlikely you will be able to reverse-engineer the data issue that cause the validation / mounting to fail, because it is hard to evaluate the extent of the data corruption. If validation fails both from Windows and from the recovery CD, and the failure can be observed on various computer or archive locations (is hardware independent), your image is corrupt.
