Can't back up to external HDD attached to USB port on network/modem router
I have just got a new modem/router (Huawei HG630B) and saw it had a USB port. This made me think i would like to connect my powered external HDD for backups to the modem in a locked room, rather than connecting it to my laptop
Problem is that i cannot get Acronis TI to recognise the destination successfuly using Windows 8.1 Pro 64 & Acronis True Image 2014.
I get the following errors when creating a new test file backup after entering in the credentials and testing the connection
True Image "The selected backup file is corrupted. Select another file"
Acronis True Image 2014 "Failed to add the backup to the backup list. The backup may be locked or corrupted. Also, make sure the folder contains the last volume of the backup, and does not contained a renamed copy of the same backup"
The router has the option to turn Samba on or FTP, but i have also had no success with either of those
Any assistance would be much appreciated

Thanks for the reply
I am trying to connect over ethernet to the external HDD connected by USB to the router.
I will look into the SAMBA & FTP setups further as you suggest
