I have the same issue - Scheduler failed to run task because of error 2 (Failed to find the file (folder) or the key (value) in the registry.). I have deleted the old task twice and the same message occurs. Yet the next .tib file is created. I run the validation and it completes the validation evaluation successfully. I also made use of the Acronis Support Center for 0x00090002 and received a 'We are sorry - There is no information about this error available now. You can use the links below to search for any additional information that might be available' That is how I found this post. ATI Home 2010 has been dissapointing to say the least, First my wireless mouse and keyboard do not work when testing the Bootable Rescue Media, now this. Please Acronis Moderators - would you please reslove the issue regarding error 0x00090002. Thanks and regards, Bill Z

Hello Scott and Bill,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

The source of the issue is malfunction of Acronis Scheduler, which is a component of Acronis True Image. In order to resolve the issue please do the following:

  1. Download Acronis Scheduler, which is a special utility to update the scheduler service:
  2. Extract the downloaded file and run install.bat. The utility will automatically update the service;

See if the issue is resolved. If it is not, then please proceed with steps 3 and 4:

  1. Reboot the machine;
  2. Recreate the scheduled tasks.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Hi Dmitry,
I'm having the same problem - error message "scheduler failed to run task because of error 2, failed to find the file (folder) or the key (value) in the registry".

I've done what you suggested:
1.Download Acronis Scheduler, Windows 32/64 bit: scheduler
2.Extract the downloaded file and run install.bat.
3.Reboot the machine;
4.Recreate the scheduled tasks.

The funny thing is, the tasks I recreated (system backup and e-mail backup) seem to be working - the error occurs every day at 8:15pm, I don't have any tasks scheduled for that time!

Thanks for your help,
Ben Riker

I also have this problem - I received a message from support that my "issue" was being submitted to the level 2 support people. That was about 3 weeks ago.

This product support group is ineffective, I think the level 2 group is another way of saying "Black Hole."

Good Luck,

Tom

I did all of the steps mentioned and the issue still persists. I am running Vist 64 bit Home Premium if that helps any. My tasks aren't backing anything up so any assistance you can provide would be appreciated. The details from the error are below:

Details: Scheduler failed to run task because of error 2 (Failed to find the file (folder) or the key (value) in the registry.).

I am also getting this one: Scheduler failed to run task because of error 2 (Failed to find the file (folder) or the key (value) in the registry.).

I have 2 WINXPPRO computers that are set up identically, and they both do it. I have reinstalled the software, cleaned the registry with REG CLEAN and then re-established the scheduler. No luck. I still get error Event code: 0x00090002

NOTE: You will not see this problem if you are monitoring your backups with the email message alone. The email verification will look good - you have to go into your LOG to see that the error did infact occur.

Dmitry says "Let me know if you need further assistance." Well, we do

Any ideas Dmitry - Please Help?

Thanks,

Tom

I too get this problem, except the backups appear to be being created OK - the logs give a confusing mixture of messages, but the TIB files appear on the backup drive. I first noticed this because although the task appears to complete successfully, the calendar stays red.

I'll have a go at recovering from the backups to make sure that they are valid and post back in a couple of days to let you know how I got on.

Update
I managed to do a full disc recovery from the backups that I've been making even though the task calendar and logs seem to indicate that the incrementals ended with errors. I guess I'd still like to see greens on the calendar, but the backups are working, even though I'm a bit nervous about them.

Suggest that you check all your disk for errors including both the main system disk but also check the target disk.

Examine the error messages. What are those error messages? When you created the backup, did you validate the image as part of the backup? or have you tried validating the image when booted from the TI REscue CD?

Thanks Grover. The task runs fine and the log message is finishes with "priority changed to low". Then a new log message appears with the error message:

Scheduler failed to run task because of error 2 (Failed to find the file (folder) or the key (value) in the registry.).
Event code: 0x00090002

I'm beginning to suspect that I've got a similar problem to others here - i.e. that the failed task is an old task that I've deleted but for some reason Acronis still logs it as a failure. The log for today has two entries - a failed task that failed to run at 0848 (there's no such task in my task list) and an entry for the task in progress - which seems to be working. Does anyone know how to delete these ghost tasks (i've downloaded and installed the scheduler as recommended above, but it's not fixed this problem)?

Interestingly, the 0848 time is probably about when I turned my PC on this morning. I've been away for a few days and the scheduled task couldn't run because the backup drive wasn't available (task is set up to backup daily to a NAS on a wireless network). Could this be something to do with Acronis trying to do missed backup before wireless and network drives are ready for it?

I've changed the task settings to not run on startup if missed and I'll post back tomorrow to let you know if it's worked.

Sorry for the rambling post.

I'm curious about the size of the backups (Mod - if this is considered off-topic then please delete).

I've just done another incremental. Last one was 90 minutes ago. Since then all I've done is modified one small excel file and browsed the web using firefox. No downloads, no defrags, no cleaning, just read the paper online and updated this forum. As a result of this the incremental backup size is 1.8GB. Is there a good reason why 90 minutes of browsing and forumming would change this much stuff. I don't backup sector by sector.

This is definitely a problem. I have one task which runs daily. This task executes successfully. However every day there is a failed task which shows up in the log at the time I first turn on the PC (Vista - from standby). If I turn on for the first time at 0815 there's a failure in the log at 0815. If I turn it on for the first time at 0934 there's a log failure at 0934.

The error message in the log is:

Scheduler failed to run task because of error 2 (Failed to find the file (folder) or the key (value) in the registry.).

More information can be found at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x00090002

It would appear that Acronis is trying to do something the first time I turn on the PC every day. I have made sure that the daily task is set not to run at next start up - but this wouldn't make any difference because the task ran successfully yesterday.

I have run the Scheduler app as described by Dmitry above. There are no other tasks set to run. Please could someone help us with this - it is very frustrating to see all the calendar days marked as Red for failed backups when the backups appear to be executing successfully.

Thanks,

Lee.

Hello Dmitry,

as I have the same problem since longer time and found this discussion here, I tried all things you suggested for correction including an installation of the last fix on that day (2010.6053), but this did not help at all.
The same error occurs at the moment, when the scheduled task (bi-daily backup in my case) starts.
I did check all my HD drives for errors, but they are all clean.
The backup itself seems to run propperly as far as I can see from the 2nd log entry.

I just saw that a new version/fix (TrueImage2010.7046_s_de) is available for download and I will try this update now.

Thx for more investigations from Acronis side.
Regards, Rainer.

I upgraded to the new build, but I still have problems.

Lee, Thomas, Rainer,

This procedure helped me to solve a "No such script" (a deleted script attempting to run) issue and it may or may not help you. You can try this and see if it helps you get rid of your errors. Doing this cannot cause you any grief unless you delete a correct script due to your own typing errors--in which case, the deleted task will have to be re-created.

(If you have task which are not needed, you may want to open TIH and delete the unnecessary tasks before you begin the process below. Close TIH).

Use Windows Explorer and locate your Scripts folder for TrueImage (use search if necessary to find the Scripts folder).
Write down the first 6 characters ( such as C880F7) for EACH of the tasks listed in the scripts folder When finished, close the folder windows.

Go to this link and note items 3-6.
http://kb.acronis.com/content/1785

Download the Acronis Scheduler Manager
http://download.acronis.com/support/schedmgr.exe
Once downloaded, then double click to open the file and click RUN which is the only option.
This will open you into a Dos like command window. Maximize the windows so you have its full height. Also note there is a vertical scroll bar along the right margin of the windows so you can move up or down inside the window.

Now follow the instructions listed in item 4-6 which is type get list

The resulting display will show all your tasks and is expected to show tasks which have been deleted. I had 20 or more obsolete tasks I deleted all the obsolete tasks--one at a time.

Compare the display with your written list of script numbers. If your written list comprises 5 tasks:(and your list is like mine), the first task listed is task 1-1 and it is valid and last 4 in the #1 grouping are also valid. Those in the middle that do not match your list can be deleted. This example will delete one task which is task 1-20:
type task 1-20.
(Note the resulting display which will display the task number typed.
inst=no start-yes loc task=1-20
Confirm that 1-20 is the number you wanted.
Then type task delete

Repeat with the next task number to be delete which may be 1-19.
task 1-19
task delete
Repeat for each task to be deleted.
Note you can type the get list as frequently as needed but if your windows is enlarged, you can maneuver the whole list.
You can also close the window and repeat the run command as needed.
When I finished the only tasks listed in group #1 will be the current group of tasks. Do not edit those in group #2.

Hey there GrooverH,

thanks a lot for that brilliant and well described hint.
It worked for me and the error disappeared now.

Best regards,
Rainer

I've deleted ALL backup tasks using the methods above - and now I have two greens on the calendar to indicate that backups were carried out successfully. Problem is that I'm not connected to my backup drive, I haven't done any backups and there are no tasks scheduled at all (get list returns nothing). The log has no entries for yesterday and today, but the calendar is green. What's the point?

I have the same problem: "scheduler failed to run task because of error 2, failed to find the file (folder) or the key (value) in the registry". Every day at 10:00:00 there is this error but I don't have any tasks scheduled for that time.
Thanks

Hello Bruno,
you should use the description of GrooverH in this discussion (little bit above your comment, dates Wed, 2010-04-14 20:15 #15).
This correwcted my errors. I don't receive those messages anymore.

Cheers, Rainer

Dear GroverH,

with your help I had solved my problem, but I don't understand why TIH has two parallel environments and why these environments are not handled by the program.

I think TIH should handle these things without manual intervention, or not?
Ah, the blue dot does not turns green until the next day, is this normal?
Anyway thanks again

Bruno,
I'm glad you were successful. Sometimes my procedure works and sometimes for others it does not. I have written Acronis advising of this problem. Sometimes the only solution is to uninstall; run a cleanup; reinstall; create new tasks.

The blue/green color changes at the start of every 24 hours which is how program is currently designed.

Hi GroverH!,
I wanted to tell you something that I think is important: in fact possible states are not only "Success" or "Failed". There can be only one task failed while others have gone well. In this case, "Failed" is incorrect because this is not clear. Should there be a new state "partially successful" with a dot half green and half red, or not?
But I have the 6053 release and maybe these things have already changed in 7046 that in Italian is not out yet.
Can I ask you something? You are a programmer external to Acronis and you created the utility schedmgr.exe and perhaps other utilities?
Anyway very good and thanks again for the help.
Ciao

There's another "state" which needs attention. If no tasks are planned and no tasks have run the scheduler shows green. In my mind having a green when no backup activity has taken place is a bit risky.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for all your post and your contribution to this thread.

I just wanted to add that we have an article in our Knowledge Base that deals with failed scheduled tasks. It is called - Acronis Backup Software Scheduled Tasks Do Not Run.

Lee Pickering,

Can you please clarify about the issue you are experiencing. It would really help us if you can create screenshots of the scheduler showing green, let me know the days, that the backups did not run, yet show green and can you send a PM with the AcronisInfo report, this will hep us to determine the cause of this.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

Anton -thanks for the offer but I can't create screen shots because I'd have to delete my scheduled backup task. Given the difficulty of setting up a backup task (took me over 2 days to get this one to work) I'd rather not delete it.

Thanks,

Lee.

I am not a computer professional. The experience that I have acquired is from being an ordinary user with many years of computer exposure. I am not employed by Acronis. The MVP symbol you see beside my name plus the name of others is a recognition of contributions to the forum by me plus other volunteers. All MVP contributors are volunteers.

The Knowledge base articles (KB) provided by Acronis are usually very helpful. My posting was simply to illustrate in greater detail information already provided by them--as referenced by the links I provided.

edited addendum:
The link provided by of support includes a link to scheduler2414 files (version 1.0.0.414) with a file creation date of April 27,2010.

Bruno and Others,

I have tried this procedure to delete the bogus scripts, and it works just fine. BUT.... when I re-boot my machine the bogus scripts come back. Where are they being loaded from??

Here is a typical error report I get via email:

1 Error 5/6/2010 3:00:10 AM No such script '959E6017-16D0-4C89-87C7-F23FD6CBDBF9'.
2 Warning 5/6/2010 3:00:10 AM Failed to process pair script:959E6017-16D0-4C89-87C7-F23FD6CBDBF9.
3 Error 5/6/2010 3:00:10 AM Operation has completed with errors.

It will also produce error 2 (Failed to find the file (folder).

I will go back and delete the task, do a GET LIST to be sure it is gone, reboot the machine, do another GET LIST and there it is again! I have had this error for several months. I have an identical machine that does not do this at all. Both are build 7046 on WIN PRO. There is a thread beginning on the topic Failed to process pair script, and it is only 4 days old:

http://forum.acronis.com/forum/10625

Have any of you who have successfully use Bruno's procedure tried re-booting to see if your fix was permanent?

Thank you very much.
