In Acronis speak, there is no such thing as a clone image. It is one or the other. So which are you doing, Clone or Image?

Clone Disk. Sorry my bad! My problem is that I have tried via internal SATA 1 tb HD with 4 equal primary partitions to clone disk a 74gb WD raptor drive to. However, AHI 09 will only allow me to install over the first partition, deleteing the first one while removing the other 3 primary partitions. It gives me no option to point to one of the other primary partition on the HD. I have the same problem with my USB ext HD as well with 4 primary partiotions on it.

Seems simple pimple to be able point to where you want to instal the clone disk to, but I cant.

Thanks

Hello Frank and DwnNDrty,

Frank, the thing is that clone tool allows you to move the contents of the whole hard drive, not a single partition. In you case I recommend you to create a backup archive and then restore it to a new hard drive.

When you create an image with Acronis True Image, you get an exact copy of your hard disk, a disk partition or individual files or folders (you make this choice when you create an image archive). If you choose to back up a hard disk drive or a partition, then every portion of the hard disk that has data written to it (sectors) is saved into a compressed file - or multiple files if you prefer. You can save this image to any supported storage device and use it as a backup or for disaster recovery. (Note: if Acronis True Image cannot identify the file system, it creates a sector-by-sector image of the disk. This image is not compressed and the image file will be of the same size as the disk being imaged.)

When you use the Disk Clone tool, you effectively copy/move all of the contents of one hard disk drive onto another hard disk drive. This function allows you to transfer all the information (including the operating system and installed programs) from a small hard disk drive to a large one without having to reinstall and reconfigure all of your software. Migration takes minutes, not hours, but it is not generally used as a backup strategy.

Thank you.

I have a 1TB external hard drive (WD Elements) in which I want to clone the disk image of my working PC's hard drive (also a 1TB drive). The actual data in my PC is only 166GB. SO if I clone it to my external drive the way you mention ('as is'), almost 834 GB of space on the external drive will remain vacant after cloning. I wouldn't want to waste this space. So I want to divide it into 3 partitions (lets say A, B and C) and use only one of the partitions (say A) to clone the image of my PC's drive to. Is there a way to do this, so I can use the other 2 partitions for backing up other files/folders or for cloning my travel laptop into? thanks
